So after deliberating and deliberating we decided our list was not working for us...has this happened to anyone else. We both sat down and just wrote out the names we really like this is what we came up with

Scarlett - is it too yesterday
Cordelia
Maeve
Cecily
Elodie
Rowan

Middle names we are thinking May (but not if we went with Maeve) and Rose
Other half and I do like Maeve but can't think of a middle name it goes with

What about using Maeve as your middle name? Goes really well with your list but is a nicer alternate to May / Rose. My favourite of yours is Elodie but they are all lovely.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 24/11/2015 17:47

Cordelia No, but I do quite like the potential nns such as Cora, Cordi Dee-Dee Dee Delia.
Don't know how Maeve is pronounced. Is it Mayeev or Mave. Either way I don't like it.
Cecily is gorgeous.
Elodie No
Rowan No

chrome100 · 24/11/2015 15:58

Love Maeve and Rowan. Really not keen on Elodie, Cecily or Cordelia.

Pandora97 · 21/11/2015 12:36

I think Maeve Isabella is beautiful actually. You're onto a winner there. Very regal as they're both names of queens.

I like all the others apart from Scarlett and Rowan. I'd probably scrap Elodie if your husband's not keen on it and Cecily if you're worried about nicknames. I think Maeve Cordelia or Cordelia Maeve work well too.

M4blues · 21/11/2015 11:18

All lovely other than Scarlett which isn't to my taste. I have only ever met one Cordelia and she is Cordy and has been since birth. She is 9 now and quite an adventurous fun living girl do it really suits her far more than Cordelia.
Maeve is lovely but needs a longer MN with 2 syllables.

Sophronia · 21/11/2015 11:04

Cordelia Maeve is my favourite.

Mclaren37 · 21/11/2015 06:17

Yes Cecily Elodie or Maeve! Cecily would be CC for short, not Cess. Love it!

ashesandfire · 20/11/2015 22:30

I love Cecily and Elodie. With Maeve as mn. Beautiful

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2015 22:01

I have a v nice Izzy sitting next to me right now!
Also, as a mn, it would be unlikely to be Izzy-fied! :)

Elbelle6 · 20/11/2015 21:59

We love the sound of Cecily Rose but I'm worried she may end up being nn cess as in pit.

Maeve we definitely love but DH says no way to Gwendoline lol. Hard name to match with a middle name though. I quite like Isabella because it's a strong queenly name but I do know quite a few pretentious Izzys!

Part of the problem I think is that I was given a name I loathed, which my family shortened to something I detested even more. I've never called myself by that name and as soon as I was 18 I changed it. My mum still introduces me to people by my much detested nn...I think it's made me paranoid

I don't think it works to have one name with a V in it and one with TH, it just doesn't flow.

gladisgood · 20/11/2015 20:57

Maeve Edith?
I do like Cecily Rose

Artandco · 20/11/2015 20:47

Maeve Rosalie
Maeve cecelia

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2015 20:45

That's two votes for Maeve Gwendoline - sorted! :)

autumnmoon · 20/11/2015 20:41

I adore the name Maeve! A long middle name would go well with it. If you like Rose, what about Maeve Rosalind? Or what about:

Maeve Clementine
Maeve Gwendoline

OhHolyFuck · 20/11/2015 20:39

Maeve Frances?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2015 20:34

Maeve Sarah then?

Maeve Susannah
Maeve Hermione
Maeve Louisa
Maeve Cassandra
Maeve Isabella
Maeve Hester
Maeve Violet/Lily/Poppy/Daisy
Maeve Rebecca
Maeve Ariadne
Maeve Gwendoline

Any literary figures with names you like?

Maeve Ophelia/Portia/Juliet/Elinor/Elizabeth/ Anna/Scarlet/Beatrice/Catherine etc

SummerSazz · 20/11/2015 20:31

What about Elowen? Seems to be in the same vein?

Issie339 · 20/11/2015 20:29

I love Cecily and Elodie (love Ellie for short) with Rose as a middle name. Beautiful names

Elbelle6 · 20/11/2015 20:17

Typo above I do know how to spell it lol though may be Maeve might be hard to spell? My middle name is Corinne nobody spells or pronounces that right at all

Elbelle6 · 20/11/2015 20:16

I didn't think about Cecily Maeve which I like as a combination. I like Elodie but like you not DH favourite.

We both like Maave as it sounds determined but still feminine if that makes sense but the middle name is a tricky one. We were thinking May because it is a family name on both sides DH grandmother was Sarah May Dye.....I kid you not!

SunnyL · 20/11/2015 19:39

I asked DH if we could have Elodie yesterday and wad denied. Go on and do it for me instead

TonyMaguire · 20/11/2015 19:31

Cordelia is beautiful. Rose and May are both fillers IMO, although Rose is beautiful as a first name. I really like Elodie but it's growing popularity would put me off.

soundsystem · 20/11/2015 19:29

Love love love Maeve. It was top of our list for DD but some friends got in first and used it for their DD (they didn't know it was on our list, they just have great taste in names!). She's the only Maeve I know, of any age. Really like Cecily as well.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 20/11/2015 19:28

I really like Maeve.

How about Maeve Cecelia?
