Initials - is this cool or madness or am I overthinking

If we use our first-choice name as a first name, and our second-choice name as a middle name, it spells out a likely abbreviation of the first name.

So for example (these aren't the names, but same principle) Thomas Oliver Murphy - giving a kid who will most likely be called Tom the initials T.O.M.

Is that bonkers or a cool bonus if he ever wants to get a monogrammed satchel?

We have seriously considered calling our child Noah Oliver Albert H... because I think it would be awesome to have his initials spell his name. We ruled it out because it seemed contrived, but this thread has made me reconsider! Only 19w pregnant so I'm sure I'll change my mind a million times yet.

If I had had a girl I wanted to call her Rose Elizabeth Surname beginning with D. Then she would have been Rose Red.

DC4 will have the first name and two middle name initials spell my maiden name. its coincidence but i really love it the more i think about it.

i think its cool and most people wont notice anyway - how often do you use the child's full name anyway!

My son's name is like this. We didn't notice until he was about 12.

It really wouldn't be a consideration for me.

My own initials are awful - parents to the day they died wouldn't have known why. It has had zero impact on my life.

Actually, I have just realised I also know a Megan whose initials were MEG before she got married.

I know a Megan with initials MEG. I think it's pretty cool. She however thinks it's the coolest thing EVER and is the envy of all her friends apparently. (She's 7)

My dad was Mr MR Surname. Always made us chuckle. I also know a Dr DR Surname.

I think it's a bit gimmicky but I am very hung up on initials (a profession that uses them a lot).

DB is M R (surname) which was mildly amusing when he was Mr M R (surname) and still amusing now that he's Dr M R (surname). That is, I find it amusing. I'm not sure he does ...

If you do it for your first DC you will have to do it for any future siblings.

This would have happened if we'd called DS what we originally intended to - he was going to be called Zachary and his initials would have been Zak. Which we thought was kind of a cool coincidence, except that I actually prefer the spelling Zach. Then for a while he was nearly Jacob with the initials JAK; so I guess he could have gone by Jack or Jake...but in the end he's neither.

I chuckle when I see it (I see a lot of names at work) but not in a mean way, just wonder if it was deliberate or accidental.

As someone with initials that I hate and get teased about, I deliberately use my full ones when I can (eg IT and chose to include Middle name so IAT, those aren't my real ones btw). So if you chose TOM initials I would make sure his first and last name initials are inoffensive so he has s choice.

My brother's initials spell out SAM too, his first name is Simon though. My mum really hoped he'd get the nickname of Sam but it never happened.

DH's cousins initials spell ART, that is a nickname that stuck. His grandad always calls him Art or Arty.

Thinking about it, my maiden name spelled a name. I was I. high school when I realised. One of the girls was given a shirt lived nick name of Elsie because her initials were L C. I got called May because my name was Melissa Ann Y...... ( I'm not going to out myself completely!)

It wasn't really cool or a big deal, just 'oh yeah'
