what is the most unusual name you have heard irl?

Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

There was a boy at my school called Glory to God. That's always stuck in my mind.

Tbh I've never met anyone with half the names I read on this board, so names like Araminta, Persephone and Ptomley etc are pretty unusual to me (I'd never heard of them pre-mumsnet) but judging by this board are quite common. Whereas in real life I know a lot of people with Arabic, Indian and African names that some people might find unusual but aren't unusual to me because that's what I grew up around.

MrsEd - I really wanted to call my dd Wednesday but thought it might across like I was trying too hard to be different!

I'd never heard it as a name either, Crazypetlady, but DD swears there are two Bethels at her school! I thought she'd misheard Bethan, but apparently not.

Bethel is a welsh village never heard it as a name.

Also, have an Irish friend from Limerick (West of Ireland), and she was mentioning the "Anus" pronunciation for Aeneas the other day as being standard. It wasn't until she moved as an adult the association with the body part sank in.

Someone was on another baby forum today asking if she should call her son Wolfric! I know someone who's son is Zorgar, after a character in a book apparently.

I knew a complete ass hat once who called her baby boy 'Shock' and her daughter 'Pixie Lane'. Then when her boy was about 2 she randomly changed his name to Lennon. Like...WTF?!?!

Everyone called him Anus, even his teachers, he said it that way himself. "ANess" he pronounced it but it sounded like anus. He was so handsome too.

My all time favourite - Mike Hunt. He was the dad of a girl I swam with and his car had a sticker saying "Mike Hunt's Car".

Second prize - Somerset Pheasant. Almost as good!

Do you think so, Jasper? When I say 'we know someone called Starling/Spinoza/Nivek', what I mean is we are Facebook friends with their parents or our kids briefly shared a school class with them or met them on a Scout trip, so it covers half the country.

I can't really post the unusual names I know, because if I listed, say, Kestrel, Zebedee, Artemis, Legolas, Tintagel and Sophonisba, it would be pretty easy to narrow me down to one of a handful of people who knew people with those names.

Our Latin teacher pronounced it more like 'Ee-NEE-us', usually with Pious tacked on the front.

Not a good advert for it, really.
