'Blake' for a boy.

DH is quite set on it. I like it (bearing in mind I have no other suggestions for baby boy names atm) but am a bit of a people pleaser and think most especially IL's will hate it and will be too American for them.

What's your opinion?

I really like it. I have taught an absolutely delightful Blake, which probably hasn't hurt! But also a fan of William Blake. Anyway, it was on my shortlist, but DH doesn't like it, though I'm not clear on why. Not massively fussed as it would only have been middle name anyway.

Never name a child just to please your in-laws.

If you love Blake then go for it. It's not to my personal taste but that's irrelevant. If you and your OH love it then go for it.

I knew a Blake in high school (he'd be mid-thirties now). He was lovely.

Just selected it as our sons middle name, he is a newborn in my arms right now :-)

We were inspired by William Blake the late British poet whose politics and philosophy we quite admire!

M4 DH is Christopher, but only ever called Kit. He is 31 and it has served him very well at all life stages so far. Good naming!

As I said, I don't like it personally but there's nothing shocking or horrid about it so I don't understand why people would react in such a negative way. And it's certainly a boy's name as far as I know.
If you love it, choose it. Names are very personal. One of my boys is a Kit. It's actually short for Christopher which is on his BC but has never been used. I and he get all sorts of looks but it really really suits him. I love it!

Blake is actually a boy's name btw. I suggest you pack up and move from these horrible people.

I have decided since writing this thread that I really do like Blake! So congratulations on choosing a lovely name for your lovely little boy!

wings I actually would like to like it for a girl and it's becoming increasingly popular with Blake Lively but I actually don't. Strange.

Weirdly, and i can't quite believe I'm saying this, but I prefer it for a girl than a boy. There's something a bit smarmy about it for a boy.

I'm sure that if Blake on H&A was gormless, it wont make my baby gormless, but then obviously he will be as cool as your guy Squoosh

DS1(22) has a friend called Blake & I've often thought how much I like it, which is surprising as I don't usually like surnamey first names. I think Blake is really cool.

It really doesn't matter what your in-laws think, by the way.
