Ooh don't know, I like it with the 'Ch' not the 'sh' but not sure reading all the comments about the name as it is a bit out there isn't it?

I thought the X factor chap was called Chay. That's how they wrote it on screen.

Depends how you would pronounce it...
I like it if it's pronounced: SHay
But not: CHay

Sorry Sqoosh, didn't mean to offend, someone else mentioned the 'sh' spelling in Scotland/Ireland too - I didn't know.

I've seen Che spelled 'Shay' which I think is a bit chavvy.

Shay and Shea are both common name in Ireland, short for Séamus or from the surname Shea.

Not 'chavvy'.

Che is roughly equivalent to mate, so 'oy mate' kind of thing.

Che is my dog's name. He gets called Chee, Cheh, Shay, She all the time. Explaining it's pronounced Che, as in Guevara is met with blank stares about 70% of the time. Apparently he's not that famous. For a one syllable name, it's massively hard work. Doesn't bother my labrador, but gets boring for me and would be really annoying for any person with that name!

It means something close to mate / pal and is (or was) just how male Argentinians casually addressed each other. Convenient that it has a bit more street cred as a symbol of revolution than Ernesto!

In Cantonese it means 'village situated on a steep slope' and is pronounced more like Shair.

I wouldn't use it for your son!

How is it pronounced? My first thought was like the start of cheese, but then people started posting Shane, so I'm completely confused and the accent wouldn't help me!

Shea is a 'butter', or some moisturising product from the shea tree. if that matters. If you can have Rowan as a name, why not Shea

This is really interesting! I didn't know there was Shea as a name. I did know Che was Ernesto and it was a nickname but seeing the guy on X factor made me think it was a 'real' name, might be a bit too out there!

My dds go to school with a couple of boys called Shea - it's reasonably common in their school. I'd know about 5 maybe under 15. It's not shortened from anything like Seamus - they're just Shea.

Che as in Che Guevara is pronounced Chay not Shay.

It's my DS's middle name, he has a Hebrew first name as he has a Jewish background although we were also including Guevara in our thinking (we went to Cuba on honeymoon). I like it (obviously!) but didn't consider it as a first name.
