Cordelia or Robyn - just can't decide.

Please help! We just can't decide. What do people prefer? We'd probably use Cordy day to day for Cordelia.

I like Robyn. Cordelia could grow on me but it sounds a little pretentious and has 4 syllables which to me is too man

Love Cordelia. Classic and elegant without being dull.

I'm not a fan of unisex names either, or spellings substituting 'y' for 'i' in almost any context so I really dislike Robyn!

I love both of them

Pluses/minuses:
Cordelia

Pluses - lots of options when she's older if she wants to use a different shortening. I agree Cordy is probably the nicest nname, but it's always good to have choices. It's also a very 'classic' name in its entirety.

Minuses - What if she decides aged 7 that she wants to be called Delia? Will you mind?

Robyn (or Robin, both nice IMO)
Pluses Less likely to be shortened, very pretty for a little one but still good on a grown up woman.

Minuses - if it does get shortened, it's likely to be Bobby (maybe this isn't a minus for you, but it would be for me!)

Well both names are objectively fine, I doubt a Cordelia known as Cordy or a Robyn even with the 'y' will have any issues with either name :)

Still if a thread puts you off a name rather than making you defensive of it's wonderfulness then you probably haven't found the one yet. I'm sure you will!

We spend about eight months trying to find a boys name we both liked, finally found the one. Then our anticipated ds turned out to be dd instead so we opted for the name we would have given ds if he'd been a boy, with hardly any thought at all!

I think Cordy is a lovely shortening but I am also a Buffy fan and tried to sneak Anya on our list because of it.

I don't think people would necessarily assume Robin was spelt Robyn - I think she would be correcting it with either spelling. I would assume the spelling Robin probably.

I'm also a Buffy fan, which is why any other shortening just seems odd to me. And I also do prefer 'Robin' as a spelling - just don't want her to spend all the time correcting it.

Aaaaahh!! I think I might have gone off both. I'm in a name panic and this baby is getting on a bit now.

I have a relative called Cordelia, and think it's both pretty and strong. She's not known as Cordy, which I don't think is either!

I like Robin, but think Robyn is ugly looking, it's after the bird surely so why the strange 'y'? I don't understand why it's considered the feminine form when Robin looks so much nicer.

So for me either Cordelia not Cordy or Robin not Robyn.
