I'd appreciate all views on our top two names for a girl and for a boy.

How do you imagine children with these names? Do you like the names?

Nina or Jemima (g) Arthur or Theo (b)

TIA

I love Nina and Theo - both really gorgeous names!
Surprised to see others disliking Theo on here, I would have thought it was more generally liked than that

Jemima reminds me of puddleduck..... I irrationally dislike this name as it is both posh and stodgy to my ears! Arthur is a bit stodgy too actually come to think of it but quite sweet with it. Just my opinion of course.

MajesticWhine · 19/10/2015 21:24

I don't dislike any of those. I like Theo and Jemima best.

EldonAve · 19/10/2015 21:14

Nina
Arthur

Nina and Alexander or Theo

The girl I knew at school called Jemima got called vagina by the other kids... But otoh kids will find any angle on any name

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 19/10/2015 21:03

Like Nina best, but don't dislike Jemima.

Arthur or Alexander for a boy.

The only one of your names I dislike is Theo but it's the name off your list I know the most of Sad Actually I don't know a Nina or Jemima and only one Arthur but a few Theos.

Ham69 · 19/10/2015 20:58

Theo all the way. Some posters have no taste Grin. Really like Jemima too. Arthur is ok but dislike Nina. Reminds me of the noise a fire engine / ambulance makes.

Montsti · 19/10/2015 19:58

I love Jemima. Nina is ok...Alexander is nice, but not so keen on Arthur. Really dislike Theo..

mathanxiety · 19/10/2015 18:41

Jemima and Theo if it is a NN for Theodore. Though I prefer Thaddeus.

TinyMonkey · 19/10/2015 17:49

Loads of Theos around, lovely name though. Nina is nice. I know a few little Arthurs and think it is a great name.

Jemima makes me think of posh Sloaney types.

ShmooBooMoo · 19/10/2015 17:24

Nina and Leo (not Theo, hate Arthur...I know many love it but it just makes me think of old men). Jemima is okay but I don't like the shortening of Jemma.
Yes, definitely Nina and Leo (odd that I love Leo and hate Theo....).

Nina and Theo

tinymeteor · 19/10/2015 16:37

Nina and Theo!

It may just be me, but Jemima sounds super posh, whereas Nina is neutral and very pretty. Theo's a great name. Arthur is good but very popular round our way.

MrsCaecilius · 19/10/2015 15:29

Jemima is really pretty. Not so keen on Nina, but mainly because I associate it with a really annoying Nina at school.

I like Arthur, strong British name, but I'm not so keen on Art/Artie as nn. Theo I like as a nn for Theodore. Its a bit short on its own.

Alexander on the other hand, awesome name! Good range of nn from Al, Alex, Xander. Absolutely timeless.

SummerMonths · 19/10/2015 13:14

Thanks all.

So far the results are
Nina: 11
Jemima: 8
Arthur: 8
Theo: 6

So not much in it but people prefer my girls names to my boys.

I think I am leaning towards Nina which I see as multi-cultural, timeless and rare yet easy to spell.

Not sure on the boys. I'm also pondering on Alexander.

Nina and Arthur

NadiaWadia · 18/10/2015 16:35

Nina and Theo definitely! They are very cool names, and fairly unusual.

Jemima is also nice, but I have heard it has unfortunate connotations in the US, apparently. (An 'Aunt Jemima' was a stereotype of an older black woman, from the slavery era) Don't know how much notice you should take of that, as it's not our history, of course, and it's a nice sounding name, from the bible, I think.

I know Arthur is very popular at the moment, but it's still very much 'little old man' to me, so I don't like it much.

JanuaryJuniper · 18/10/2015 15:09

Nina and Art (just to be awkward) but honestly you couldn't go wrong with any of your choices!

ashesandfire · 18/10/2015 10:09

Love Nina! I like Arthur, because Art and Artie are cool nicknames.
Jemima is OK. A bit try-hard IMHO.
Not that keen on Theo.

RiverTam · 17/10/2015 22:18

Nina
Theo

Allthatnonsense · 17/10/2015 22:11

Love Nina, adore Jemima, like Arthur.

Katarzyna79 · 17/10/2015 18:02

I think Arthur is celtic in origin although to me sounds more English I should say British before I get attacked lol

Katarzyna79 · 17/10/2015 18:00

I like jemima not keen on theo or Arthur but pushed to choose I'd go with the more English sounding Arthur.

Lunastarfish · 17/10/2015 17:55

I don't like Arthur but love Jemima and Nine. I'm a bit meh re Theo

TattieHowkerz · 17/10/2015 17:54

Nina is nice. Dislike Jemima, find it a bit wet.
Arthur is OK, but feels a bit like a going off the boil trend. Prefer Theo.
