Lady Diana, Eastenders dog's name.

Writerwannabe83 · 21/10/2015 08:50

I came on this forum to ask for opinions on Diana Grin

Me and DH are in talks of having DC2 and I so desperately want a little girl so I can call her Diana!!

Unfortunately I don't like Diane or Di so I'm not sure how things would pan out in terms of nicknames she would be given by her peers Grin

stitchglitched · 19/10/2015 16:02

I think it's a lovely name.

CruCru · 19/10/2015 15:59

I like it, everyone can spell and pronounce it. It's a proper name but not super popular.

Littleonesaid · 19/10/2015 15:23

I like Diana, lovely classic name. Roman goddess of hunting.

MrsCaecilius · 19/10/2015 15:01

Far to many associations with Princess Diana for me. Although objectively it is a pretty name.

squoosh · 19/10/2015 12:28

God yes. I could never get on board with the names she gave her poor kids.

reuset · 19/10/2015 12:13

I remember Anne in AOGG being wildly jealous of Diana's name.

Yep, she probably waxed lyrical about 'Diana of Shining Waters' or suchlike (not an actual quote there). But she must have liked the name as she named one of her children Diana. However... she gave her other children names like Joyce, Bertha, Walter, Shirley (I know some were family names, but...)

Bored12345 · 18/10/2015 19:50

I actually quite like it. Not met one under 35 so quite refreshing. Also like nickname DeeDee

CelestiaLuna · 18/10/2015 19:45

I know an 11 year old Diana who is originally from Poland, her name is pronounced Dee Anna which I think sounds so much nicer... It's the Di nickname that puts me off the name

UptownFlunk · 18/10/2015 03:02

I reckon it will become quite popular again over the next decade. Diana reminds me of the Greek goddess. If you're thinking about negative connotations though there's also Diana Moseley (née Mitford).

AnemonesCloser · 18/10/2015 02:28

I remember Anne in AOGG being wildly jealous of Diana's name. If I recall correctly wasn't Diana given her name by a visiting minister but Matthew still suspected it was a bit heathenish?

I love the name Diana, not too keen on Dianna a la Dianna Agron but it's an alternative.

I'm not sure the princess Diana think will be too much of an issue amongst her peers.

im not keen on Di though

reuset · 17/10/2015 23:46

Nobody's mentioned Diana Wynne Jones if we're mentioning all the people named Diana we've ever heard of.

And Wynyard was a Dorothy really

reuset · 17/10/2015 23:42

Being a character from a popular children's book doesn't save it. Diana Barry wasn't particularly inspiring either. I prefer Gertie Confused or Cordelia (and the less said about Marilla the better)

howtorebuild · 17/10/2015 19:35

I thought Dianna as in POW too. I do think it's a nice traditional name and enough time has passed, go for it.

Finallyonboard · 17/10/2015 19:32

I love Diana! Hate 'di' though!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 17/10/2015 19:28

I like it. I too thought of Diana Barry before the Princess. (But I am in the middle of an AoGG series re-read at the moment, which might explain the primary association).

celtictoast · 17/10/2015 19:24

I like it.

Zhabr · 17/10/2015 16:42

What about Deeana?

IsadoraQuagmire · 17/10/2015 16:40

I DO know how to spell Diana Wynyard's name, stupid autocorrect.

IsadoraQuagmire · 17/10/2015 16:37

Yes reuset I didn't say I hadn't heard of Princess Diana. I said I wouldn't think of her when I heard the name. The first famous Diana I think of is Diana Rigg. Not Dors, Vreeland or Wynyarde, though I'm familiar with all of them.

ohmyeyebettymartin · 17/10/2015 16:05

Diana Krall!

ohmyeyebettymartin · 17/10/2015 16:04

Yy Diana Vreeland.

ohmyeyebettymartin · 17/10/2015 16:04

Sorry careless reading there Grin
