This week I really like the name Jocelyn for a boy or a girl. DH likes it ok for a girl but point blank refuses to consider it for a boy, claiming he'd get beaten up for it. Thoughts? Would I be dooming my poor little Jos to a childhood of playground torture?

Also Jos Buttler (England cricketer) and Joss Wheedon (writer of Buffy) are both Josephs. If there's 2 famous Jos(eph)s then there must be loads of non-famous ones and it can't be that unusual! However I do get some Hmm looks, some 'Jos????'es and had one 'Josh'!

I also looooove Joss for a girl but not Jocelyn or Josephine, so wouldn't have used it for a DD. Contrary to how I usually think, for some reason I feel like Jos(s) needs a longer version Confused. My Jos is always Jos though.

DS is 4 months old and is a Jos :) he's a Joseph though.

I think its much nicer for a boy, sounds masculine to me. I know one who gets called Joss, that is a cool nickname imo.

If DH vetoes it for a boy, how about Jostein (as in Gaarder, the author) instead. Norwegian male name. If you're thinking of using Joss mainly anyway, this would work just as well.

I much prefer it for a boy. I've known two, now very cool men in their 30s and 40s, both known as Joss.

I love it for a boy but I knew one at school rather a long time ago and he did get teased a bit about it. Not hugely, but probably enough to make him cringe at the recollection.

i might be temporarily confused if i heard a boy called jocelyn or even joslyn/jocelin but im sure i'd get used to it and its certainly a classy name. we had jocelyn/jocelin on the list for DD.

Yes, love Jonah but it doesn't work with our last name.

Joslyn Fox sounds awesome. I have no issue with DD/DS's name having that association!

Yes, I guess Jocelin would be a more masculine spelling. I like it more and more for a boy the more I think about it. And Joss is such a lovey nn...
Like Joy as a female nn too.

I know a boy Jocelyn. It's his "proper" name, but he has always been known as Joss, which really suits him. No serious teasing. He doesn't like the full version of his name.

The only Jocelyn I know of is a drag queen on Rupauls drag race - it's her stage name. But she was a very lovely drag queen!

I had a female roommate called Jocelyn who went by Joy. Really liked it!

I automatically assumed you meant for a boy, not sure why! Um. Not really all that keen either way.

If we used it for a girl, I'd probably shorten it to Josie. Or Jos.

Hadn't thought of the Jos/Josh mix-up william. That would irk me. I know a little boy called Evelyn!

NN Jo doesn't work with our surname, unfortunately. I guess another reason to avoid Jocelyn. Hmmm.
