Sister for Meredith?

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 15:59

So we have our boys name all sorted but struggling to agree on a girl's name. Our DD is called Meredith (Merry) so which of these do you think goes best?

Alexandra (Alex or possibly Lexi)
Therese (Tess or Tessa)
Caroline (Callie)
Eloise (Ellie)
Penelope (Penny)
Charlotte (Charlie)
Felicity (Flick or Fliss)

If relevant we use both the full name and nickname in everyday life.

Thank you! Smile

Your list has some great names.

Years ago I knew sisters called Meredith and Verity which I always thought was very pretty.

Blueturquoise · 12/10/2015 23:32

Constance (it s a a grower - say it a few times Smile)
Martha
Esme
Phoebe

mathanxiety · 12/10/2015 04:58

My first thought was Iseult.

From your list, I like (in order)
Therese (Tess or Tessa)
Charlotte but I don't like Charlie as a nn -- I like Lotte or Lottie
Penelope (Penny)

Not keen on Felicity, Eloise or Alexandra. I like Caroline but not Callie; I prefer Carrie, but Carrie and Merry would be out methinks.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/10/2015 01:22

I'm a massive Grey's fan, have spent wasted precious sleep time a few hours watching it on download whilst the baby is asleep and didn't connect Meredith and Alexandra (Lexi) to the show.

I'd choose Felicity from your list.

If I have another daughter I'd call her Meredith, gorgeous name. It was no.2 on my list, refused to use it as a middle for my daughter, just in case I have another (though if I have a son he can have Meredydd as middle name and like it).

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2015 23:44

Meredith is gorgeous, and I know it's not on your short list but Vivienne nn Vivi came into my mind.

Sleepyfergus · 11/10/2015 23:11

Know you have a shortlist, but I know a Meredith who has sisters Genevieve and Susannah.

mammabear4 · 11/10/2015 22:58

Clicked on this to suggest Isadora as my DD is Isadora (nn Dora) and Meredith is top of my shortlist for baby no.2! But just seen you have a shortlist - from your list I love Penelope and Felicity! Smile

WaitroseEssentialPancetta · 29/09/2015 19:46

I would also think greys anatomy though wouldn't judge for it, it's not as obvious as bill and ben or Tom and Jerry etc. Lexi is dead and Meredith does keep trying to kill herself but it wouldn't put me off the names.

Laquila · 29/09/2015 19:46

I think Meredith and Caroline are lovely together. I also like Felicity.

I think Eloise is my least favourite from your list.

5madthings do you mind if I ask what your boys choice is?! Merryn is top of our list for a girl but we are utterly stuck for boys!!

helentheheron · 29/09/2015 19:40

Petronella

myotherusernameisbetter · 29/09/2015 19:13

From your list Therese or Alexandra.

Or

Gabrielle (Bree)
Persephone (Sephy)
Annalisa (lisa)
Lilianna (anna)
Vivienne (Vivi)
Estelle (stella)

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 18:51

5madthings I also love love love Merryn, but agree that you cant have Meredith and Merryn as a sibset!! like Genevieve but DH vetoed that.

ashes yes I think you are right, will probably axe Eloise from the list for that reason.

giles I was thinking more of Elizabeth, although yes I like Samantha too!

We had meredith on our list for dd, she is actually a Merryn and we call her merry sometimes.

Felicity, penelope and Addison were on my list as well but dh doesn't like them.

I still like them, we also had genevive on the list to be shortened to vi vi.

I am a fan of greys! And er.

I still like meredith but can't have that with a Merryn...

I like juniper /juno we are really struggling for girls names, sorted for a boy though.

ashesandfire · 29/09/2015 18:41

There are squillions of Ellies though. Merry and Fliss is a cute combo :)

ashesandfire · 29/09/2015 18:40

I love Eloise, Felicity and Caroline.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2015 18:31
Grin

you weren't thinking of Addison, miranda or arizona amelia or Maggie were you?

oh and Alex was also a character (but male) Grin

good choice with ER. Susan? halle, abby? Sam?

Wink
RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 18:26

seriously?? clearly I should look up the character list for more ideas!! Grin I'm more of an ER fan myself though!

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/09/2015 18:22

callie is also a greys anatomy character btw Grin

although it's short fir calliope not Caroline so you would get away with that one

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 18:13

you're right cake they are not obvious choices to be on the same list really!

looks like I'm winning so far! Grin

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/09/2015 17:51

Interesting that those people who like Therese also like Caroline - I don't see why those two names should be connected. But they are my two favourites too.

LemonPied · 29/09/2015 17:35

You have two of my favourite names up there, Caroline and Therese. I think I prefer Caroline a little more.

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 17:32

DH is keener on Alex than Lexi anyway so it might still be a contender!!

OP posts:
genome · 29/09/2015 17:20

I wouldn't rule out Alexandra, but it if you use the nickname Lexi I would think somebody will make the connection, so it depends how you feel about that. I think the show is unlikely to be popular with their peers so the connection would only really be made by other adults who have a similar dreadful taste to me in medical melodrama!

overthemill · 29/09/2015 17:12

Lexi obviously.

RainwildsGirl · 29/09/2015 17:10

genome no I've never watched Greys...is it such an obvious link that I should write off Alexandra?!

My name actually quite tempted by merry and pippin!! Blush think DH will happily veto it though!!
