Heard this one in the playground last week

Lady I assume was mum calling "dan" which sounded mire like "den"

Then the little guys mate turned up shouting "hi Denver"

Different, but I don't think I would would use it.

Bohemond Brixton and Stockwell are excellent names for pets! And they could be joined by Clapham and Kennington if you ever decide to get more...

You might call your child Brandon as a celebration of the fact that you got out of Brandon with all of your limbs when at one time you thought it wasn't possible and you'd end your days mired in the heinous wasteland, desperate for sunlight and air that isn't fetid with the stench of decay.

Nobody who had ever visited Brandon would name a child after it. I suppose if you live in Wales you'r the other side of the country.

Denver was in Norfolk first. Just sayin'.

Are you sure it wasn't Demba? I thought a boy at DS's school was Denver until I saw it written down.

I suspect that if you know the place, placename names just sound ridiculous. There are lots of Shannons, and Irish-Americans in particular find it 'Celtic' and winsome, but to me it's primarily a rather dreary industrial free zone with a godforsaken airport in the middle of it.

Oh well I stand corrected on the English place names front!! Camden and Brixton, well there you go. And every bit as ridiculous "unusual" as Denver and Brooklyn . Probably Walthamstow will catch on next, or maybe Putney...

Brandon is very common here in South Wales. DD is 18 and had 3 in her year.

I love Camden as a name. Denver is fine as well.
I work in a school. Some of the names & spellings would have this site descend into meltdown!

Isn't Florence originally a place name? The one given to the other Nightingale, Parthenope, didn't catch on in the same way.

And Alaska to me is a famous drag queen with an...eh unique voice (look her up ) I just can't picture a baby Alaska without hearing a drag queen drawl!

I think it's quite cute. I know a baby Alaska from a group I went to when I lived in a proper rough part of Leeds. It just sounds like 'I'll ask her.'

Sounds pretty ridiculous IMO. But then I'm not a fan of American names generally. Funny that it's "trendy" to call your child after an Amercian town/city/area eg Brooklyn, Denver, Kentucky, whatever but yet no one thinks it's cool to call their child Maidstone, Exeter or Stoke...same principle really!
