Heard this one in the playground last week

Lady I assume was mum calling "dan" which sounded mire like "den"

Then the little guys mate turned up shouting "hi Denver"

Different, but I don't think I would would use it.

Years ago there was an American woman on Usenet (called Georgia) who named her many children after towns & cities in the US state of Georgia: Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, etc. It actually worked incredibly well.

Isn't it problematic because often place names are after people so some of these have always been names. And often the meanings of names are "from the place. Dallas for a boy, for example, is Scottish Gaelic. And whilst not exactly common, certainly not uncommon either. It means something to do with waterfalls if memory serves.

I agree that some of these are ridiculous though. .

Children I know:
Paris, London, Dallas, Montana, Dakota, Denali, Alabama, Adelaide, Sydney, Austin, Chyna, Devon/Devin, Georgia, India, Jordan, Ireland, several Siennas, Kenyas, Asias and Savannahs.

In my area of rural Wales,we have a Hudson,Diesel,Jersey,Armani,Chanel,and Chardonnay!!

I like place names for names though.

I know a family (not all sisters, some are cousins) called Atlanta, Sydney, Dakota and Savannah - think they're all lovely on their own (I have a Savannah myself) but maybe a bit much together!

I've also taught India (f), Austin (m), Orlando (m), Paris (m), Indianna (f) Chelsea (f) and Milan (m)

Georgia was named after King George the second though...
I know a Hudson,a Lincoln, a Memphis, a Daytona, an Arizona and a Montana.

I know someone who has a Denver and a Dallas. I think they're awful names.

I'm still dismayed at hearing three children called Chardonnay, Merlot (boy) and Foster being bawled at in the supermarket yesterday....... Be thankful there wasn't a Pernod I guess.

In DD's (16) year at school there is an Indiana and a Devon (both girls).

Remember Georgia is a place name as well.

Also I always chuckle at this threads because my toddler daughter has a very conventional name but all close friends and family call her by a totally quirky nickname that she acquired as a small baby. Also I frequently call my little boy the name of whatever TV character he is obsessed with at the time! Currently kwazii from the octonauts Grin

Not heard Denver as a name before. On holiday this summer, there were brothers called Hudson & Oakley. There do seem to be more American style surnames-as-first-names about these days.

I have no particular feeling about them really. I don't hate them but don't like them either. And certainly haven't come across one I'd want to use.
