Hi, I am expecting DC1 in 6 weeks - a girl and am struggling to pick a name. I have a list of some I quite like but I just don't know. I am therefore looking for any opinions on these or any suggestions for other names you think I may like!

In no particular order:
Isla
Sophia
Sienna
Georgia
Francesca
Eva
Amelia
Ella
Lillie
Daisy

OP posts:

They're all nice names, you really seem to like the soft vowel endings so maybe look at others that end similarly. A lot of these names are very popular in case that affects your choice

Lola
Carla
Lara
Ailsa
Flora
Orla
Iona
Marnie
Lesley
Lucy
Allanah
Verity
Vivienne

I'm biased as I have a toddler Georgia and adore the name- we don't know any others.

Isla- ok very popular
Sophia- lovely but lots of Sophie's and Sophia's
Sienna- not my taste
Georgia- my favourite girls name obviously
Francesca- I like it dh hates it
Eva- lots of Ava's/Eva/Evie's around like Ada
Amelia- lots around
Ella- like Eleanor but Ellie on its own
No
Lillie- again Lillian is ok Lillie not my taste
Daisy- really dislike

Other names I like similar feel to Georgia - Elizabeth and Harriet with Hattie as nn

There are lots of lillies, evas, ellas, amelias and daisys. If you love one of these, then fair enough - Im a great believer in choosing the name you adore, but do so in the knowledge that she is likely to be one of several in her school. That bothers some parents more than others.

Of your list my personal favourites are Sophia and Francesca.

mrsschu · 22/09/2015 16:29

They're all nice enough (some nicer than others) and all pretty popular (which is absolutely fine). Favourites from your list are Lillie (would spell it Lily) and Eva. How about Amelie??

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 22/09/2015 16:42

I like Isla the best out of your list.
For less commonly used girls' names, what about these European names:

Marella
Ginevra
Allegra
Maria
Valeria
Claudia
Elena
Marina
Natalia
Alicia
Gabriella
Alaina
Aline
Aurelie
Camille
Cecile
Corinne/Corinna
Eloise
Felice/Felicia
Francine (English pronunciation not great though)
Joelle
Manon
Mireille
Solange
Sylvie

Giraffe5 · 22/09/2015 16:49

I love Georgia but also have one of my own

ashesandfire · 22/09/2015 22:22

I love Francesca. The rest are just ok, a bit bland IMO.
Eleanor
Helena
Sophie
Evangeline
Freya
Lydia
Louisa
Anya
Leila
Alice
Bethany
Nina
Clara
Mireille
Aurelia

I like all of your names, except perhaps for Sophia - although a do love Sophie. It's the "fear" sound on the end that puts me off!

There's nothing wrong with popular names but, if it matters to you, every second baby girl born around here is either Isla or Sienna. Ava, Lily, Ella & Amelia are all very popular around the ages of 4 or 5 but I can't say I know any babies with those names (although I think Amelia was still the number 1 name last year?).

If I was choosing from your list, I would go for Georgia or Francesca.

If I could change the a for an e, I would go for Sophia Grin.

triathlon · 22/09/2015 22:32

I like Sophia, Georgia, Eva, Amelia, Daisy, and Lillie with the spelling Lily.

BlueChampagne · 23/09/2015 14:48

Francesca is my stand-out favourite from your list. I quite like Isla and Georgia too.

How about:
Arianne
Freya
Miriam
Samara

I like your list!

My favourites are Isla, Georgia, Ella and Daisy.

Moonatic · 24/09/2015 11:56

You have more-or-less named every girl in my dd2's class at school. (She's 9, btw). There isn't a Georgia, but apart from that...

These names are all very popular at the moment, which may or may not matter to you. Other suggestions:
Lucy
Emma
Louisa
Harriet
Laura
Julia

BreeVDKamp · 24/09/2015 12:30

Francesca is great, nn Frankie :) lovely.

All the others are fine and perfectly pretty, but a bit dull for my taste.

BreeVDKamp · 24/09/2015 12:30

Jessica?

PeasinPod1 · 24/09/2015 14:45

Isla
Sophia
Sienna
Amelia
Ella
Lillie
all the above are pretty but insanely popular, like everywhere. For that reason they have become un-pretty to me and just bland.

Georgia
Francesca
Eva
Daisy

The above are less popular but still not obscure and again all pretty names, I'd veer towards Francesca- beautifully (not not pretentiously) elegant, feminine, love the nn Fran - or Daisy, because its fab.

PeasinPod1 · 24/09/2015 14:46

to 2nd bree Jessica is very similar in feel to a lot of your names but not as insanely popular any more, and gorgeous.

Summerwood1 · 24/09/2015 22:47

I love the name Rosie,if I have a girl that's the name for her!
