So I think we are pretty set on Elliot for our baby girl due in a few month, but what do you think of a middle name

Elliot Josephine
Elliot Louise
Elliot Lucy
Any other pretty suggestions, she will probably be referred to as Ellie

To me Elliot is a surname at best or a boy's name. If you put a girl's name as a middle name, people may think you have filled in a form the wrong way round, so if you use Elliott Mary, people could think the names have been transposed and call her Mary Elliot.

I have the reverse problem - my surname has become a popular first name for girls and people will call me by my surname. To me it sounds like some Victorian master calling their servant by their surname and it annoys me intensely, especially when they compound the problem by misspelling the name - grrr. I have no problem with variety but please be ware. it's not you who will have to bare the brunt of your choice.

We can't have rose although I love it, already taken by a niece. However we both always loved Meghan so might throw that in the mix. Weirdly it's DH that is super set on Elliot I'm the one that was hesitant Smile

I love Elliott for a girl but DP said no :(

I'd personally have Elliott Rose or Elliott Meghan with our surname

The name is like marmite, I feel like people think I'm calling her Dave! I think Elliot is very feminine and I wouldn't use it for a boy. I'm not the only person to use it as well it's becoming more popular as a girls name, just like Lesley and Ashley for boys.

I like Elliot Paige actually, can't use grace as a middle name in the family already, as are Mai, rose and faith.

And BTW I like George, Dylan and Andie for girls too! It's nice to have variety in the world!!

Ooooh I really like Elliot for a girl - but please don't call her Ellie. I swear 99% of DC school is made up of Ellie's and with such a lovely name for a girl, don't shorten it to something not so lovely and unique.

And FWIW, I don't think it needs a middle name, if you need one, keep it short and 1/2 syllables.

I like Josephine Elliot, and Lucy Elliot.

CarmenMonoxide · 15/09/2015 11:30

OOh no don't call her Ellie if she's Elliot, there are a million Ellies and Elliot is a fab name.
Elliot Grace?
Elliiot Paige?

Only call a girl Elliot if you would call a boy Alice.

Seriously - it's a boy's name.

MrsWooster · 15/09/2015 11:25

George mwahaha

Iris
Violet
Imogen
Emma (quite like the alliteration)
Amelia

Or if you were channeling your inner redneck you could use May and have your very own Ellie May.

BTW I love Elliot for a girl, great name choice.
