Help me convince DH of my name choice please!

DS2 was born on Tuesday evening, we already have DS1 and DD who have short (4 letter) names which are quite unusual.

The name I like is Xavier (pronounced with a Z) as my dad's family are Portuguese so I'd like a link to that. I think it sounds nice in its full form but also shortened to Zave when he's older.

DH thinks it's too out there and that no one will pronounce it right. Oh and he thinks everyone will think he's an X Man

What do you think?

I like it, and would pronounce it as Za-vee-er - some people might still use the Z sound but say Zay-vee-er.

I like it but don't understand the pronunciation. I would pronounce Xavier as Xa-vee-er and Zavier as Za-vee-er, so why don't you spell it with the Z if that is how you want to pronounce it?

You will get told on here that it's terribly popular. That may be so in certain areas (possibly London or SE) but I have never met one.

It's not to my taste but if you like it and it has family connections and you can twist your DH's arm then go for it.

Congratulations. Love love love it. Once you tell people how you want to pronounce it that's how they will - most people pronounce it 'Z' anyway ime. It's not particularly out there at all (i know the same number of Xavier/Xavs as i do Jacks). The Xman thing is a bit reaching imo.

Also, there does not exist a name that some eejit won't spell or pronounce wrong.
