OIC as initials?

DimpleHands · 29/08/2015 13:07

If baby is a girl, we are going with Olivia as a first name.

We love the name Isabel as a middle name but our surname begins with C, so the initials would be OIC.

Is this awful?! Be honest!

Oik didn't occur to me at all until I read the thread. Definitely not a problem.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 30/08/2015 09:13

I don't know any children who use the work oik to be honest. Not a standard insult nowadays!

DimpleHands · 30/08/2015 09:10

Thanks everyone. Yes it was the "oik" thing we were worried about. Although we also didn't think about the "oh I see" thing! Well it sounds like most of you don't think it's an issue which is good.

I'm failing to see any problem at all with OIC initials

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 30/08/2015 08:25

OIC sounds fairly serious. I don't think it will be a problem. I like officer in charge.

My ds has his nn made from his initials and he thinks it is the coolest thing ever. Think along the lines of Daniel Alexander Noble making dan...

I worked with a guy whose initials spelled ice.

Daphnedolittle · 30/08/2015 08:18

I think the problem is it sounds like 'oh I see...' but I could be wrong!

ShootTheMoon · 29/08/2015 19:49

Maybe not OIK, but OIC is fine - it's 'Officer In Charge' Grin

YoniMitchell · 29/08/2015 19:47

I think I'm missing the problem with OIC? I certainly didn't think 'oik' (as that's spelt with a k).

Daphnedolittle · 29/08/2015 19:41

Not a problem at all. Who even uses all their initials? No one knows mine, and even if they did OIC is nothing bad.

GissASquizz · 29/08/2015 18:17

Oh, I see.

AlmaMartyr · 29/08/2015 18:15

What's the problem with OIC? Is it just the 'oik' thing? I really can't imagine anyone will ever notice or care about that tbh.

BathshebaDarkstone · 29/08/2015 17:44

Yes it is. You're setting the poor girl up for a lifetime of stick. Sad

BikeRunSki · 29/08/2015 17:43

It's fine. In some situations people are knaon by their initials, often in the minutes of meetings. You'd hope that by the time people are having meetings, they'll be adult enough not to snigger at initials.

reuset · 29/08/2015 17:41

Oik with a 'k' would make me reconsider. I think you'll be ok, but it's always worth checking initials

BeautifulBatman · 29/08/2015 14:52

If we have a boy, the initials will be GDP. Not really thought about it tbh.

Squooshed · 29/08/2015 14:50

Can't see a problem. Are you worried she'll be called an oik?

No one will even notice. Can't remember the last time my first name, middle name and surname initials were used as an acronym.
