Clement, Clarence, Roscoe or Gilbert?

We are totally settled on Astrid if we have a daughter, LOVE IT! but a little confused for a boy. We always had Roscoe in mind way before I was ever pregnant but since being pregnant have come up with a few others. Gilbert, my husband like Gil and I like Bert as nick names, worried child will have 2 diff nicknames! Also like Clarence, Roscoe and Clement, Florian is an outside possibility too. Any thoughts?

I like Clement, I know a couple of lovely Clems.

Clarence is too feminine, Roscoe's only modern link is to the Dukes of Hazzard, so I wouldn't. He is the laughing stock.

Gilbert is a bit of a dad-name, but there was Gilbert Blythe who was a bit of all right. So I'm not as opposed to it as I might otherwise be.

Very unusual choices, OP. Still, it would be a dull world if we were all alike! There's only so many Olivers, Harrys and Lily-Roses this world can take without something to liven us up a bit! Thanks to you for keeping life interesting!

Interestingly, Roscoe was more popular in 2014 than any of the others, according to the ONS.

No, I wouldn't have called Clement Atlee wet either. The Gilbert I know did go to the local comp and has shockingly managed just fine. He's a builder - is that normal enough, Poison? ;)

villainousbroodmare we like Bertrand but have a long winded surname so sounds too posh, Also like Percy, Percival. Not into the others but thats for the suggestion.

That's the dampest set of names I've ever heard, imo. I thought the only possible option for a strong solid name was Ross for Roscoe, so am very amused to hear that you don't like it.
Our tastes are utterly different. Grin
Do you like Rupert? Cuthbert? Bertram? Percy? Tristam?

Astrid is really lovely - to me it has an air of outdoorsy healthy Nordic competence and as such could not be more different from the boys' selection which speak to me of mildewed books and perpetually dripping noses.

Frankly I think ill ask for my thread to be deleted since really feel like having my name choices for my baby fucking slated. What exactly does wet mean? Clement was a fucking Prime Minster FGS Hmm

Also not keen on Ross...love Clem though. I agree you'd probably have to be a strong character to get away wih Florian! Is Florin a variant or have I made it up?

They're all really bad. Honestly. Drippy, just ugly sounding. And yes, Roscoe is the worst. It isn't even a name.
Hope it's a girl, Astrid is ok.

Think Gilbert would be Gil or Bertie, Clancy and Clem or Clemmie, my issue is a don't like Ross for Roscoe at all... Florian i think could make it as a middle name, worried its a little too feminine.

I love Gilbert and Clement, also like Clemence. I like Florian - what would you use as a nn? To be how at I think Roscoe is my least favourite, but I don't actively dislike it...
