I don't mind Rae. It has a retro feel that pleases me.

I really dislike Isla though not least because of it's popularity. I know 7 Islas under 5.

Only1scoop · 07/08/2015 20:48

Because it rolls off and sounds like the spoken 'IRA'

Quite like Isla but not Rae

Although if it's just a middle name that won't be used it's not that crucial.

BootsTheCat · 07/08/2015 20:47

Isla is a lovely name. I'm not keen on Rae personally but I get your reasons for choosing it.

Now someone has said IRA I agree it does sound like that.

I'd keep Isla but choose a different middle name but as its a family name I'm not sure if you'd want to

What about Isla Something Rae?

MuttonCadet · 07/08/2015 20:45

No it's not "small minded people", it does sound like that, but how often would you be using both her first and second name?

If she'll be known by just her first name it's fine, if you are planning a double barrelled it's not great.

diploddycus · 07/08/2015 20:44

I love Isla but I do agree that with Rae it sounds a bit like IRA.

mydogeatsnutstoo · 07/08/2015 20:44

Isla is extremely popular at the moment so she is likely to be one of several at any groups/ nursery.

I think Rae sounds a bit unfinished personally but the sentiment is nice, I don't think there are any major issues with it.

emmalouise90 · 07/08/2015 20:44

That sounds like the Isle of white :/ maybe I should consider a name in front like Isla poppy Rae etc

Not the name Isla on its own. The previous poster was commenting that Isla Rae sounds like IRA.

I know an Isla White.

emmalouise90 · 07/08/2015 20:41

I don't see how people would associate the name Isla with the ira is it just small minded people?:/ I've never heard anyone associate the name with it :(

The Rae is because Raymond is a family name passed down so is the girly version as to why it would just be a middle name

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 07/08/2015 20:38

I know a child with that as her full name as Rae is her surname.
It always sounds like a double first name if her whole name is used.

No, it sounds like IRA, the abbreviation of the Irish Republican Army.

emmalouise90 · 07/08/2015 20:32

What is ira? It's pronounced eye la what's ira got in common with that?

VixxFace · 07/08/2015 20:00

MamaLazarou · 07/08/2015 19:56
