What do you honestly think of the name Topsy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fugghetaboutit · 06/08/2015 14:40

Wow. Just wow.

Is it unisex? Sounds like a clowns name.

Choccyhobnob · 06/08/2015 14:40

Topsy and Tim....

HeyDuggee · 06/08/2015 14:40

Go watch 10 episodes of Topsy & Tim on BBC Iplayer. Then come and tell us how you now feel about the name.

Pipbin · 06/08/2015 14:39

It was a great Aunt's name. Not her given name but what everyone called her.

TheNumberfaker · 06/08/2015 14:39

Rabbit name and from the children's books/tv series. Just say no to your DH!

chocolatedonut · 06/08/2015 14:39

The worst name I've ever herd

SylvanianCaracal · 06/08/2015 14:38

(Though I am a terrible giver of silly nicknames (my poor DC) and would probably have to call her Top Banana)

Ivegottogo · 06/08/2015 14:37

You couldn't take a grown adult with a name like that seriously. In my job I often have to formally introduce people. If they have a name I find funny, I try to avoid it and refer to them as a guest or visitor instead.

SylvanianCaracal · 06/08/2015 14:37

I quite like it, it's the kind of name a child could grow into and would be good for a strong character (though of course you don't know what she'll be like). I'd rather fill in job application with Topsy than be one of 1000s of Lolas and Orlas.

Tops/Toppy/Top are not bad nicknames and very positive!

If you like it, give her a very straightforward, user-friendly middle name (like Elizabeth) so she can switch if she wants.

tatumsfunkychicken · 06/08/2015 14:36

Agree that it's for a rabbit. Sorry.

queentroutoftroutss · 06/08/2015 14:35

I actually like it Grin.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/08/2015 14:33

If you must, call her Topaz, nn Topsy.

Though my grandparents had a dog called Topaz once.

SoupDragon · 06/08/2015 14:32

How could anyone hate their child so much to give them the actual name Topsy? Assuming it isn't a nickname.

Rosieliveson · 06/08/2015 14:30

It does sound like a pet's name rather than a child. I might go for Tabitha and then use nn Topsy if I really liked that name.

Gintonic · 06/08/2015 14:29

Don't do it. Imagine how she will feel filling in job applications with a name like that.

OTheHugeManatee · 06/08/2015 14:22

Rabbit.

Canyouforgiveher · 06/08/2015 14:20

it is also the name of a character from Uncle Tom's Cabin.

It doesn't feel like a real name to me.

mrsdavidbowie · 06/08/2015 14:19

Topsy from Uncle Toms Cabin

Turquoisetamborine · 06/08/2015 14:17

I detest it.

Ekkwhine · 06/08/2015 14:16

I love it! But then I adored Elfey for out DD but was shot down by DH who firmly put his foot down.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 06/08/2015 14:10

It's really cute, but very risky. And probably prone to treading. Makes me think of MR Topsy Turvey from the Mr Men.
It's adorable for a cute kitten, However.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 06/08/2015 14:08

Don't do it

GummyBunting · 06/08/2015 14:08

It's intensely awful.

CherryBonBon · 06/08/2015 14:07

To say I despise it would be a monumental understatement.

AnneSansTete · 06/08/2015 14:07

God heavens no
