Somebody give us a name that we might even consider???

I have read 2 baby name books cover to cover and check this board almost daily.. NOTHING! Angry

I have been in love with ONE girl's name for years & years - absolutely impossible with my now married surname. Angry Angry

I see a name, I kind of like it, I say it out loud, I hate it.
I see a name, I kind of like it. I say it to Dh, he wrinkles his nose or looks at me in shock.
I see a name, I kind of like it, I think it's quite vintage/retro - it's so popular, if I said it at the school gates, i'd have 50 kids at my feet.

DH says a name, I walk away in disbelief... Confused Hmm

In my head, I think I want a 2 syllable name but wouldn't be opposed to 3 or a potentially adjoining middle name. Our surname is only one syllable.

I don't know if we are having a girl or a boy and will not be finding out... HELP!

Natalie Ross shortens nicely to Tilly.
For a boy I like Alex Ross.

I also had just one girl's name to use, and fortunately I was able to use it!

I realy don't know what I would have done if I had had another girl, but as it turns out, she was followed by a boy.

Mine is Ariadne. I just love it! If you really like Iris, then go for it. People won't call her Iris Ross all the time, every time they speak to her.

Also personally I'd just go with Iris if you love it. Chances are she gets married at some point and changes her surname anyway.

No names starting with 'D' otherwise they'd be DRoss but you probably thought of that already!

You could stick with Iris but call her Iree for short?

Iris is a lovely name, and ok with Ross IMO.

Dorothea Ross (Thea)
Constance Ross (Connie)

For boys I think a Scottish first name goes well with a Scottish surname so as you don't like mainstream, how about,

Lachlan Ross (Lachie)
Duncan Ross

My 4 all have mainstream with acceptable but unusual shortenings.

If you like Lilah, how about Lelia (just been suggesting it on another board! Confused). Popular in Victorian times but has pretty much dropped off the radar (though I know one) and has had the retro surge that has made so many retro names EVERYWHERE.
