star for a girl?

I'm only 9 weeks pregnant with my 5th child but keep getting signs for the name star if it's a girl. what does anyone think??

I know a female Nikita but it's actually a Russian boys name so you v may want to bare that in mind.

More I think about it, more I like Star(!)

I love star. And Stella. They were both on my girl lists, but I ended up with 4 dss.

I knew a Star, it was (like all names) just her, and suited her because the name becomes associated with the person. I say, if you like it, go for it.

But I love Aurora! (In fact, I've written it down!) Also Aster. Stella to a lesser extent.

I know where PP are coming from with Nova, and I love the principal of it. But to me I'd constantly think Vauxhall! (As in Vauxhall Nova, teenagers first car of choice in the 90s!)

wow!!! what a negative response. knew it was different but didn't think people would hate it that much. the only other girls name I have is Nokia. any thoughts?

Not keen myself. How about Steren (Cornish for star) or Aster (Greek for star). Astrid actually has nothing to do with stars, it just sounds like that to English speakers.

One of my Dc goes to school with a Scarlet Star. Nice kid but the parents...! I know the names of all her kids because they are tattooed on her back and she only wears vests and looks bloody scary.

Celeste? I used to babysit a little girl (who is no longer a little girl) called Aurora Celeste - which translates to Dawn Star, but is so much prettier.

No, Star and Seren are just horrid in my opinion. Serena is nicer, as is Aurora. Dawn isn't too bad but maybe a bit old fashioned. Perhaps use Star as a middle name, if it still seems nice later on?

I quite like it. My DD is called Charlotte and when she was little someone misheard her name and thought she was called Starlet and I thought it sounded really nice for some reason.

Anyway, no. I can think of a jacqueline wilson character with the same name and even at that, her sister was Dolphin (can't believe I've just posted about the same characters in another thread Grin ).

A constellation/star name would be nice though. Even Star as a middle name would be better. It's a hard name to live up to.

Nova is worse than star. It is very close to "new" in some Slavic languages and unless you're a satellite, it isn't a name. At least there's ponies and horseys named Star.

I quite like it though it does make me think of horses for some reason.

I was talking with a Welsh speaking friend who's DD's are Seren and Deryn, so Star and Bird in English. We were saying how in Welsh they are really common names but in English would be considered a bit 'out there'.

Here in Wales Seren is lovely, Astrid is also beautiful and timeless.
