I do think the 'stripper/showgirl' connotation is old hat, especially to a generation who will have grown up with Charlie and Lola and have that as their first point of reference for the name.

My cousin used this name last year, and I like it, so there.

kelman13 · 04/08/2015 11:43

I also like Nancy but my other half doesn't! it's trying to find a few names that we can agree on! easier said than done!!!!xx

I like Grace (prefer it as a first name) but not Lola.

Heels99 · 04/08/2015 11:37

Grace is boring now, its what people choose if they can't think of anything else

Lola is ok prefer lois or laura though

bestguess23 · 04/08/2015 11:32

It's the name of a jewellery brand. I must admit I do think it sounds like a pornstar/stripper name.

CalmYourselfTubbs · 04/08/2015 11:30

don't like lola.
makes me think of those lolo balls that we all jumped on 20 years ago.

and the song about the cross dresser.
lola oh oh ohhhh loooola.

CheersMedea · 04/08/2015 11:29

Yeah - Lola is a bit of a low rent/Showgirl/Prostitute name.
Think of it this way - can you imagine someone saying "Let me present to you, the next prime minister and leader of the Party, Ms Lola [Surname]."

No way. It's like someone called Fifi Trixibelle is going to have a damn hard time making head way in a serious profession.

The name Lola always makes me think of this song from Damn Yankees - also a bit slutty/vampy!!

Grace is OK as a middle name but a bit of a curse for a woman as a first name. Few people are actually graceful and that's a hell of a teasing burden for a galumphing little girl to bear.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 04/08/2015 11:26

I have a Lola and you can all bog off Grin

I only know one other...it's possibly more popular now but 12 years ago it wasn't.

I really like it and so does Lola.x

ComfySensibleShoes · 04/08/2015 11:23

Lola's a bit naff, sorry.

If I had to choose an English name (my daughters have beautiful Welsh names) then I'd choose something like

Katie
Emily
Lydia

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 04/08/2015 11:20

Prostitute. Sorry Blush

DuchessofAnkh · 04/08/2015 11:18

...you'll get that from anyone over 40 Grin

DuchessofAnkh · 04/08/2015 11:18

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha...

..etc...
or alternately

"Lola"

I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola
See-oh-el-aye cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
El-oh-el-aye Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 04/08/2015 11:15

Or how about Grace as a first name

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 04/08/2015 11:14

Well it does flow nicely mind you Grace is a classic name that goes with almost anything.
But I don't like the sound of Lola. I love Louisa Louisa-Grace is beautiful
But not my baby nor my business.

kelman13 · 04/08/2015 09:24

thanks for your opinions! I don't know any lolas lol! it's so hard trying to decide a name! Haven't even started boys names yet?!xx

MummyPiggy87 · 04/08/2015 08:51

Not keen on Lola, will prob get shortened to 'low' aswell.
Grace is nice though, Gracie for a 1st name is pretty.

wineandpopcorn · 04/08/2015 08:47

I like both but very common names currently, I know lots!

DirtyDeedsD0neDirtCheap · 04/08/2015 08:46

Lola is ok

grace boring

but there are loads of Lola's about. how about Layla? Lois? Lexi?

(I have a combination of 2 of the above so am biased)

BeautifulBatman · 04/08/2015 08:44

Single that's Lila Grace

SinglePringle · 04/08/2015 08:43

Isn't it the name if Kate Moss' daughter?

whatarethose · 04/08/2015 08:42

It's nice but overused and getting a bit boring.

DurhamDurham · 04/08/2015 08:42

I think they are both a bit overused at the moment and I think Lola is a very washy washy name.

Branleuse · 04/08/2015 08:40

It sounds like the name of pretty much every other little girl at the moment
