How many Atlas' do you know?

Hey all, due in a few weeks and we are naming our son Atlas Isaiah. My only concern is that I don't want to choose a name that's too popular/becomes popular!
When I named my daughter Ava ten years ago, there were no other Ava's around-now they're everywhere! Same happened with my son Sonny 8 years ago!
I know it shouldn't matter but I'm just curious.....

Thanks guys, definitely going ahead with Atlas, middle name Isaiah after his dad. I don't see it as inflicting or burdening though, it's beautiful. There are so many alternative names these days, especially now that we are a part of the EU and have multi national children in our schools. Atlas was a name before it was a book, and children don't readily use atlases in schools as a part of curriculum anyway. Maybe when some of the posters were in school, many years ago, but not currently. Smile
Also, the point of the post wasn't to get people's opinions on my choice of name for my son, although everyone is entitled to their own.
Now on the countdown until he's here Grin good luck everyone xx

I love this name! but having a girl so not using it (can't find a girls name I like as much!) the girls name I will probably use was slated by mumsnet but will probably still use it :-)

I'm not sure what being a Scorpio has to do with it? I think you are confusing astronomy with astrology?

Scatter and Bertrand are quite right. OP you have been hurt/irritated by some of the comments but these were only generated over a short period. Your son would be subjected to this and worse all through his life. Why is having a unique name worth all the hassle that your child will go through? Serious question, after all your child will be unique why does he need a unique name as well?

Your reasoning is sweet but why not have it as a middle name and let him choose whether he wants to use it when he's older.

Wouldn't burden a child with the name. Since when does disliking something make someone a hater, anyway?

Atlas wasn't a Greek god ffs. He was one of the Titans. The titans fought against the Olympian gods and were overthrown.

He also never carried the world on his shoulders - he was doomed to hold up the sky. Him carrying the planet is just popular artistic license.

If you're going to call your child something ridiculous, at least know the story behind the name.

Just think about what it would be like to be called it before you use it. It's not you that has to go out into the world with a name that will make people stifle a grin. And that will happen to him every day for 90 years.Honestly, OP- don't do it.

I think it is a good idea to hear it tbh. Its not your name, it is your childs, and it is helpful to know what he might be up against in terms of name-based piss taking.

I considered Atlas but Dh hated it. It's a nice name but surely you must have known not common.

I quite like it and the meaning behind it. I dont know any but i know of children with much more ridiculous names.

I really like Atlas and your story behind the name, honestly it's a much better name than some names MN seems to be in love with. I do have a degree in geography though
