Strange. To me Rex sounds very Establishment.

defiantly screams more benefits Britain then the apprentice

I'd say it's more obstinate than defiant. Regally obstinate.

All the male dogs these days seem to be called Max, Charlie, or Jake.

And Fenton of course.

Honestly?

I think that dogs names are everywhere at the moment. Every other little boy seems to have a name suitable for a dog.

So I don't think it being a dog's name is really much of a problem tbh.

I doubt any of your DS's friends will consider it a 'dog's name', their dogs will be called things like Charlie, Alfie and Oscar. www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/sep/16/from-poppy-to-sherlock-the-uks-most-popular-pet-names-cats-dogs Interesting that Poppy, Molly and Bella feature in the top 4 names for both dogs and cats, but nobody refers to them as pet's names when they come up on this forum.

It's my son's name, but then my dog is called Thomas so clearly I'm the wrong way round! I love it. There is a family connection too but it suits my little boy down the the ground. Just pick a name you like op, stuff everybody else.

I used to have a dog called Rex, in 1980. It isn't a fashionable dogs name just now. I think its a great name.

There are many people with dogs with "human" names, are those names no longer going to be taken seriously now then?

My DD is called Lucy, i know at least three dogs called lucy too. So what.

Daniel Deronda, Brideshead, had minor, notable, characters called Rex.

I think it's ok as names go, but I think it's a tricky one to carry off.

It's wonderful. Seriously it's cool and strong without being too try hard and it's underused. Completely ignore those who say it is a dog's name . I have a daughter with a so called cat's name.. Fuck em it suits her to a tee.

I like it-makes me think of the fabulous Rex Harrison from my fair lady.
His first name is Reginald-could that be a possibility op?With the nn Rex?

I like it, think it's cute for a toddler but works for an adult too. It was my grandfather's name and was on our short list for DC2, who turns out to be a girl... Think you probably need a longer surname though, ours was too monosyllabic.

I know a lovely little boy called Rex, however his mum tells this story....

In a gift shop, looking at all the tat souvenirs with names on, mum says to her DS 'we never find anything with your name on do we?'

Shop assistant says 'what's his name?'

Mum tells her it's Rex

Shop assistant says 'have you tried the pet shop?!'

How about as a middle name then, both mine have family names as middle names as do I. You can use it as a main name but then he has the option of a first name in the future?
