Welsh boys name

Our beautiful Ds2 was born this week and is yet to have a name. We live in Wales and really want to give him a Welsh name, esp as our Ds1 has a Welsh name.

Names I like are Gethin, Harri, Ioan, Emrys but would appreciate any ideas.

I also like Idris, but Dh not keen on this.

Oh, call him Gethin. I know a super kind and hunky Gethin. We need more Gethins in the world.

Surely you don't have to choose a name based on whether your family can pronounce it? Don't you just tell them how to pronounce it or have I missed something?

Thank you so much for these. Some really beautiful names for our boy.

Both Dh and I really like Ifan ( pronounced eefan) so that's good.

Our Ds1 is Owain and whilst we love it, and it suits him to a tee, a lot of family have struggled to pronounce it.

So I'm wondering if Ifan would cause them difficulty too. Not that it matters really, as it's important to dh and I that they have a name we love for him.

Names we like that I imagine would be easy/easier to pronounce for our family are probably Evan and Gethin. Both of these are lovely too.

Tudor, which is welsh for Theodore, which means gift of God. Other / Welsh spelling (as of the Tudors) variously given as Tudur or Tewdwr or Twdyr, we stuck with the more English variant for my son's middle name.

We have a Iestyn. Still love the name and havent met many. Other names we considered were Steffan, Ioan, Mostyn and Idris. Congratulations.

I love Llewellyn but most non Welsh people cannot pronounce a double l properly . And Gruffudd can be a bit of a challenge too . Both Princes of Wales . My father's name was Owen. Had we ever had a DS....

Congrats! Welsh names for boys popular where I live are Cai, Sion, Dion, Gruffydd, Meilir, Ioan, Trystan, Guto, Osian, Owain. I could go on but those I my faves!

Congratulations on your new arrival OP!

I have a Gethin and love it. So much so we can't think of another boy's name we like nearly as much. It is great as it is definitely Welsh but the pronunciation isn't too much of a problem living in England.

I do like Idris but like you DH is not as keen. I like Iolo, Ianto and Geraint. I also like Tomos, Harri and Huw and they would work a bit easier with my English family. I do like Gruffudd but not sure it works with Gethin.

Can you tell I've given this a bit of thought? Not even pregnant, just had a mc, but very much planning the next one soon.

Really like Emrys. But my favourite boy's name ever is Taliesin. Also love Osian, Aneurin and Rhodri, and quite like Huw.
