It's a good solid name, with nice abbreviations. Not exciting, but really safe. And I think safe is OK.

I love it with Bobby as nn but oh's dad (who he doesn't get on with) is called that so it's out

Great. Classic, simple, strong and (above all) dignified.

If Scottish or (perhaps) Northern then there are also short forms Rab and Rabbie.

I know a couple of Roberts aged 12. Rather dull IMO.

Excellent name. One of the nice things about having a classic name is that you share it with lots of outstanding people: Bob Dylan, Robin Williams, Robert De Niro, Robert Redford, Robert the Bruce, Robert Browning, Robert Mitchum, Robert Plant, Robert Downey Jr, Robert Duvall, Robert Louis Stevenson, Bob Hoskins, Robert Burns, Robert Hooke, Robert Kennedy, Bob the Builder.

Bob is quite old-fashioned as a nn, so less likely to be used. Rob is the usual shortening these days, although I know two or three (various ages) who are always called Robert in full.

Fish, couldn't agree more. Robert itself sounds lovely, but not sure I'll be able to cope with Bob and the like..Confused

I love it as its my DS's name. However I don't love it for other people to give their DS as a name as I chose it particularly because it was solid, easy to pronounce but NOT over popular at the moment! Grin

I love it. My dad was a Robert and my ds has it as his middle name.
