What do you think of Esme?

Keep coming back to this name for DD due in 2 weeks but would like opinions. Would use the 'EHZ-mae' pronunciation. Full name would be Esme Grace Sienesi (pronounced sea-nee-see). Grace is a family name so keeping in tradition. Her brother is Henry. Good match??

It really doesn't bother me when people pronounce my DD's name "Ezmay" instead of "Ezmee". I think they both sound lovely (though "Ezmee" is far better obviously ). I have better things to worry about!

I have a 16 yo Esme - pronounced Es-mee. Never had a problem with others calling her Es-may. She would very quickly tell them how to say her name
There does seem to have been a few Esme threads recently and, predictably, there will be posters who think Es-mee is the correct way to say it and those that insist it should be Es-may.
Obvs I think Es-mee is correct (and it sounds nicer to my ear) but is it any different to Ma-ya or My-a. You will obviously pronounce it in the way that you like the sound of

The whole matchy names things baffles me TBH. I have no idea what names sound good together, they are just names.

I have never thought 'ooh nice name but it doesn't 'go' with their siblings, that's really overthinking things.

But that's like saying that first names and surnames don't have to go as people may get married and change their surnames. When you have a choice about how names sound together, surely it's better if they do sound good together.

I love it - was my choice for DD but DH said no. Sigh. It's beautiful BUT I much prefer Ezmee pronunciation. Ezmay sounds like it might be double barrelled....

Siblings names do not have to go, that's ridiculous. How about when you get married-do the names have to 'go' then? I am worried DH and I have non matching names when people say them together now.

I never knew about this name matching when I named my DC pre MN.

benchmark if I am honest I much prefer Es-mee. I feel that Es-mae is a bit too 'twee' however have resigned myself to accepting it the way that the 'masses' pronounce it. More so as to not confuse DD.

I was advised on here prior to DD's birth that I would find it pronounced Es-mae by everyone else!

I agree with pp about Esme Sienesi having too many 's' sounds. And I think sibling names do have to 'go'. Every time you're asked about your children you'll say their names together, sign cards... I still count myself as part of a sibling set even as an adult. Having said that, Henry and Esme is fine.

Too many sibilants. With your surname, I would avoid any names with s and z sounds.

Meh I have an Esme pronounced Ezmee - ten times nicer than Ez-May IMHO.

I have a baby Esme so be warned that it will become very popular....I seem to pick names that then become popular.. I had one of the very first Amelies years ago.... and now this is the second or third Esme thread I've read recently.

My Esme is 14 now. She does get a few people calling her the other pronunciation but she says she doesn't mind.

This is one of my favourite girls names but the pronunciation problem really puts me off. I like the Ez-mee pronunciation far more than Ez-may but the latter seems to be the most popular.
Tiredemma - did the Ez-may pronunciation grow on you?
