Opinions on the name Dorothy nn Dottie

To go with siblings Charlie and Tilly.

Love the meaning of Dorothy, 'gift of god' and she would be a gift as we have lost two babies.

Hideous. Sorry.

HeyMicky · 24/07/2015 13:49

Love it. My grandmother was Dorothy and went by Dodi . DD1 has it as her middle name. I know a fab adult Dorothy who goes by Dot. Do it!

DorothyGherkins · 24/07/2015 13:41

Its a lovely classic name. I love the first part of my MN user name more than I love my real life name.

Bonsoir · 24/07/2015 13:39

No I really don't like Dorothy. Like Phoebe, it's one of those old lady best left to rest in peace.

ememem84 · 24/07/2015 13:36

Yep. Do it. Lovely name.

Greenwing · 24/07/2015 13:19

Are you aware that 'friend of Dorothy' is slang for a gay man? I didn't either until a family member chose the name Dorothy and my husband enlightened me. It has caused a few smiles and smirks as she has grown up!

sallysparrow157 · 23/07/2015 22:37

I know a Dorothea and a Dorthe. They both kick arse. I prefer Dorothea to Dorothy as you have the option of thea as well as dottie as a nickname and some kids just aren't ....ie (I can't imagine my Dorothea or my Dorthe ever being a dottie!)

MehsMum · 23/07/2015 22:16

I campaigned hard for Dorothy when we were having DC. DH didn't like it, even as a middle name and I am still a bit Sad.

DoloresLandingham · 23/07/2015 22:12

Love it. I know a three-year-old Dorothy who is universally known as Dodo - she's adorable.

Diggum · 23/07/2015 22:08

I never knew that's what it meant. I don't think I've ever met a Dorothy in real life but it is just lovely! Dottie so so cute too. Definitely do it!

AndNowItsSeven · 23/07/2015 22:04

Yes it's really cute, love the meaning too.

HarrietSchulenberg · 23/07/2015 22:03

Lurky my mum is a Dorothy May Smile. Born in 1939 just after my grandma had been watching a certain popular new film.

Zzzsnatcher · 23/07/2015 21:55

Go for it, great name!

MargoReadbetter · 23/07/2015 20:58

I like it. I had a friend Dorthe in childhood. In fact, not sure about the spelling in Danish.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 23/07/2015 20:56

I like it. But I'm biased as dd has a variant for her name.

lurkymclurkerson · 23/07/2015 20:53

I love Dorothy! I know someone who's just had a Dorothy May.

NadiaWadia · 23/07/2015 15:45

I think it's nice, why not? OK some people may not like it, but there are so many 'old people' names around now, and actually I much prefer it to say, Elsie, or the very popular Florence. The wizard of Oz association is fun, too!

SaulGood · 23/07/2015 13:25

Oh it's lovely. I like Dorothea even more.

Congratulations.

Spydra · 23/07/2015 13:24

I love it - please do go ahead.

d1157230986361b000875 · 23/07/2015 12:17

Thank you, quite surprised at the love for Dorothy :) to be fair not everyone will love the name, a lot of people didn't like Tilly's name but it had a special meaning for OH.
I really want a special meaning and so far this name feels right - Suppose the only association with the name I have is Wizard of Oz, but I like the film :)

I know a 4yo Dorothy, nn Dotty. I love The nn and it really suits her. Dottie goes well with Charlie and Tilly and if you love the name definitely go for it.

Flingmoo · 23/07/2015 12:16

Dotty is a sweet name

RoosterCogburn · 23/07/2015 12:13

It's a lovely name, I also love Dorothea.

Congratulations!

Sophronia · 23/07/2015 12:12

Dorothy is great.

VeryPunny · 23/07/2015 12:12

If DS had been a girl, she would have been Dorothy. It's a fab name, on both sides of our family as well.
