Harry potter names

Hello! Need some help as my brain is literally a bowl of mush thanks to the current cooking baby!

Anyway we find out the sex of our baby on the 29th of july and we are thinking of names... usual problem the names I suggest n like the other half doesn't vise versa etc etc! I don't like traditional, I like different or American names. I am also a geek... so geek names linking to films/books I like too. My fav being harry potter. I'm utterly obsessed with harry potter!

Anyway we seem to have agreed on a boys name.. We both like felix :-) my other half likes it as it's Latin for happy/lucky and I like it cos it's the name of the creator of the liquid luck potion in harry potter so I love it as it's harry potter themed but not too obviously harry potter.
Girls names we can't seem to agree. I'm totally and utterly in love with luna... He's on the fence he hasn't said no which is a good thing but he's not said yes either. Also some ppl I've mentioned luna too have all pulled all face or commented that it's stupid... its now starting to make me wonder. But I can think past luna for a girl so anyone got any ideas? Harry potter themed? Xxx

My favourite of the girls names is definitely Ariana/Arianna. Classy, beautiful but still a strong enough link to HP.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/07/2015 11:42

Rosmerta (is also name of Celtic goddess of fertility and abundance)

Remus (one of the mythological twins, raised by a wolf, who founded Rome)

GoldfishSpy · 24/07/2015 20:31

Felix and Luna both gorgeous.

DH vetoed both on the basis of cat's name and HP

MrsFionaCharming · 24/07/2015 20:27

Helena (Ravenclaw)
Demelza (Robbins)
Pavarti (Patil)
Hannah (Abbott)
Susan and Amelia (Bones)
Arabella (Figg)
Bertha (Jorkins)
Andromea (Tonks)

Doilooklikeatourist · 24/07/2015 19:48

I know it's not a Harry Potter name , but as you like Felix ( I do too ) how about Felicity for a girl ( Flix for short )

Love Fleur ( Fflur here in Wales .. Pronounced Fleer )

Arabella ( Bellatrix inspired )

Ariana

Avrina

SconeForAStroll · 24/07/2015 19:41

If you love Luna (which I do) but feel it might be a little too HP - how about Evanna after the actress?

Or Dorea - Harry's grandma's name?

TruJay · 24/07/2015 19:33

I know a little Luna, love it.
Also love Felix, wanted it for ds but dh couldn't get past the cat food advert i still love it

doublepotions · 24/07/2015 15:16

Bertie (Botts)
Tom (Riddle)

chrome100 · 24/07/2015 15:05

d1157230986361b000875 · 23/07/2015 12:01

I love HP and I think Luna is lovely and I love her character :)
Sorry to repeat any names, here's a few I could think of, I know there are loads more. I have put an astrix by the ones I like :)
Lily *
Petunia
Majorie Dursely (Vernon's sister)
Minerva
Ginevra nn Ginny *
Molly *
Hermione
Arabella (Mrs Figg)*
Lavender (Brown)*
Bellatrix prefer Beatrix but then there's no association with HP
Hannah (abbott)
Amelia (Bones)*
Mary, Maisy*, Ellie (cattermole)
Romilda -
Millicent (Bulstrode)
Penelope Clearwater (Percy's girl friend)
Fleur

Ariana* (Dumbledores sister)
marietta (the snitch in the DA)
Helga head of house
Rowena Head of house
Helena the grey lady
Angelina Johnson
Alicia - quidditch team player

Narcissa
Pansy Parkinson
Poppy* -school nurse
Rita skeeter
Pomona* - head of hufflepuff
Emmeline* Vance

Good luck choosing a name

CruCru · 23/07/2015 09:01

Felix is nice. I know some German speakers who used it for their child as they wanted a name that works in English and German.

Of the HP girls' names, I like Minerva.

NinjaLeprechaun · 22/07/2015 11:19

I did that Buzzfeed quiz and it landed on Peter James. Which is very close to what my daughter's name would have been if she'd been a boy, so worryingly apparently HP and I have similar taste in names.

I like Luna, and Ariana if you'd rather be more subtle. They have a similar sound to them I think.
I also like Molly, because Molly Weasley is definitely somebody worth naming a child after.

Kendra makes me think of her from Buffy. Not the greatest association.

FlyDragonfly1 · 22/07/2015 11:14

Felix is lovely. I wanted it for one of our DS but it was vetoed :(

I love Luna too, so pretty. I also like Gabrielle (Delacour), Fleur (Delacour), Emmeline (Vance), Rose (Weasley), and Lily.

BobbyGentry · 22/07/2015 06:34

Kendra's good :)

BobbyGentry · 22/07/2015 06:33

Lily
Tilly (Bathilda)
Molly
Dora (Nymphadora)
Lavender
Cybil

insertsomethingwitty · 22/07/2015 06:09

How about Kendra which is Dumbledore's mother.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/07/2015 05:10

What about borrowing from another film/book and having Lyra instead? Similar but different to Luna (which I do like)

I love Felix. It's DS2's middle name. Grin

From HP, my favourite is Ginevra - if I'd had a DD I would have called her either Genevieve or Ginevra (DH agreed to the first, not sure he'd have gone for the 2nd though)

lloydlf33 · 22/07/2015 04:58

I have a daughter called Hermione and she absolutely loves her name. We've had lots of compliments about it and everyone is always pleasantly surprised when she feels them what her name is. You do herbs few pronunciation blunders but once you've corrected people it's usually fine. We call her Miney for short :-)

Donatellalymanmoss · 21/07/2015 22:20

In case your wondering that's a link to a buzzfeed game which selects your child's Harry Potter name.

Donatellalymanmoss · 21/07/2015 22:19

Buzzfeed to the rescue www.buzzfeed.com/alannabennett/dear-albus-severus-your-name-is-terrible

AuntieStella · 21/07/2015 18:06

I really, really wanted a Bellatrix, but DH overruled the pg hormones on that one. Probably just as well.

But it could be a family alternative for Bella, or any name which shortens to that.

I'm not sure people will think Twilight unless you have an Edward as well.

jamaisdeux · 21/07/2015 18:06

Fawkes Yes, my name is Hermione and I love my name! It has stood me in such good stead. Seriously.
But I am 45, well older than the HP phase!

fawkes182 · 21/07/2015 18:04
