Elliott for a girl! What do you think?

Just that really! DH and I expecting a little girl in November and struging with girls names. DH really likes elliott for a girl, she'd be Ellie for short. Or the other name weird is Edith and she's be Edie for short. Thoughts please Smile

Edie is lovely. Elliot is awful for a girl.

Elinor is nice as a longer name for Ellie. Means the girl can also use the nick name nell

Call centres really! I don't think I'm too worried about that haha! Sometimes being different is ok, it's not like I'd be naming her apple or Mercedes which I think are far worse! Obviously a lot of people on here think it's cute. Still in love with Edith too. Ohh this is gonna be hard!! We'll probably get to baby arriving and completely change our minds! But DH is pretty keen!

I meant to say bag* not bad opinions! I think tho that there are far worse names out there for girls than Eliotte! I think it's very feminine sounding. But I appreciate everyone's thoughts that's why I've posted this Smile

It's a boys name sorry. Think of all the problems with call centres in later life. It would grate.

On the other hand Elia is a unisex name. Pronounced Eee- Lie- Aaah

Absolutely not.

You love the name perhaps because you like the character in Scrubbs, but it will be your child dealing with the teasing, the bullying and the non stop questions about why she got a man's name.

A very confident outgoing child femenine child could pull it, but what if she is born with a shy personality and not so femenine looks?

If you decide to go ahead with it, use it as a second name, so at least she has the option to use the other, if she finds it too much.

Wow such a mixed bad of opinions! Which is good, I thought a lot of people would flat out hate it! DH has suggested spelling it ellitte or eliot. We are are thinking of going for a feminine middle name if we chose elliotte like Josephine or Louise. She'd get nicknamed Ellie Lou, Ellie Jo! It's such a hard job picking out a girls name! If it was a boy he would be Noah flat out ha! But there are lots of pretty girls names out there just a struggle to choose one for your own baby! Luckily we have a little time!

I love Elliot, it was on my list for DS but DP vetoed it.

I also love it for a girl, I think it is quite a feminine sounding name, and I love the Scrubs connection, but I probably wouldn't name a girl Elliot, because despite what I just said, it is a boys name and I'm too much of a traditionalist.

Elliott is a boys' name. Too many boys' names are being turned into girls' names for some reason. No one ever suggests they call their son Lily. Oh I wonder why!

Edie is nice (but not Edith. 'Nay' to Edith).

Elliott is a boy's name, it's on our shortlist but we will only use it if we have a boy.

I know this is a boys name, but remember first hearing it in ET and thinking it sounded feminine. Obviously the makers of Scrubs agree! Would still assume boy if I was looking down a register, but wouldn't think it was at all strange to find out it was a girl.

Not keen on Edith but love Edie. Also love, Ellie, ubiquitous or not.
Finn sounds surprisingly good on a girl.

I like Elliott for a girl, I look at it in a similar way to Harriet (preferring Elliott out of the two!).
Think the double t spelling looks slightly more feminine for some reason, but either way I reckon go for it! Smile
Ps she could be lottie as a nickname too perhaps?

Reminds me of the American little girl who had quintuplet sibling , think they were on Home and Health. She was very cute but I

My son is Elliot too. I don't get it for a girl really. Though I do know a girl called Finn. Very cool, though apparently it's a pain in the arse at school.

I don't get this fad for using boy's names for girls, anyway, when there are so many lovely actual girl's names available. And you never get it the other way round, do you, a traditional girl's name used for boys?
