hmmmmm....what about this name?

Currently 28 weeks pregnant with a boy. Me and dh have decided his name is going to be Cooper -which I love love love ? I like kindof out there/americana names- names that aren't to crazy I guess (cooper us really moving up the popularity charts) what do you think??? I just want to know what kind of reaction it'll get lol x

I like it Smile wouldn't be able to use it myself though as DPs surname is more often used as a first name (think James) so it would look poke his name was backwards Grin

Congratulations on the birth of Cooper OP. Well done for sticking to your guns.

Cooper is a grand name and so is Raegan which IMO looks better spent that way. I hadn't discovered MN when I was pregnant and I'm so glad I didn't because I would have got a pasting on this board.

Sometimes I think the baby name board is taken over by socially insecure, unimaginative bullies.

It's a friend of mine's surname... And I call him Cooper or Coops. I think it's a great name even though I wouldn't necessarily use it myself. Go for it!

Lovely baby :) I didn't realise it was an older thread and was coming to say that using surnames is indeed very common in Scotland and that I know a Couper.

I know a little Cooper in the good old US of A . . . rather sweetly nicknamed Cooperman. It's maybe not the most usual name to find in the UK but it's not a real Hmm name that's going to cause him loads of playground grief. If you love it, go for it!

Sorry I didn't get to finish! I have a friend who named her baby Cooper and it's adorable, but he did get called "Pooper" as a toddler, in a friendly way ;)

I really like it. It's a warm, friendly name. Coop is also very cute. Also love Fletcher. Surnames as names isn't a modern thing - look at Fletcher Christian.

I's Scottish so have no problem with surnames names and I know some quite unusual ones - Walker, Wilson, McGregor, Lyall as well as some more usual ones - Austin, Miles, Kerr, Keir etc. A lot of names can be one or the other, even within the "classics" - Charles, Thomas, James etc. I know both a boy and a girl Piper too.

I also know a Raegan (spelled like that) and I wouldn't think to spell it any other way.

I wouldn't have used Cooper mainly because I went for more Scottish names and it is more English to me - I'm not being racist, just sticking to my roots :o but I would expect a Cooper to have quite young trendy parents.

It's not a name I would use but there is certainly nothing wrong with it. It's nice. Some of the people on here, not so much.

It isn't to my taste at all but it is a perfectly reasonable name to choose. You and your partner love it which is the only thing that really matters.

Hmmm not for me...well my surname is cooper. So cooper cooper would be crackers.....

As long as YOU like it it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks

Or are from/know that it's a Irish spelling. Which you would then think that "Cooper" gets approval, being traditionally English (as opposed to Germain/French/Latin/Spanish).

OP, I like it, being a Big Bang theory fan, I think of Sheldon Cooper, but I have family in the US and Newcastle/Scotland, so I'm used to Surnames migrating to Forenames.

You really should discount the opinions of people who live in their own small world.
