Help with my stupid surname.

My surname is stupid. It is the noise a dog makes... but not Bark. The other one, the more stupid one.

Don't know what sex we're having and don't know where to start. Everything sounds ridiculous to me, DH & my names included. Bloody comedy surname.

What doesn't sound ridiculous with Woof?

I don't have a problem with the surname but kids are very different. a kid might get teased a bit about it, and i would be conscious of this; you could give the kid just your husbands single barrelled surname to avoid any peer difficulties through school.

I wouldn't go for Wilbur, just because alliterative names might add too much to the cartoony feel... Donald Duck, Peppa Pig, Wilbur Woof.

Brilliant suname. Don't pick an r name like rufus or a canine name like Digby and you'll be fine.

Woof is an awesome name. FWIW, I think a first name with more than one syllable sounds better when your surname only has one syllable. Other than that, anything can go with Woof!

I love Octavius Knight!

DH is alright really. He's just got home from work and half-suggested that we watch Star Wars tonight for name inspiration.

I'm really liking Wilbur at the minute. Probably a no-go though.

You wouldn't believe some of the names my OH suggested OP. Mycroft (Sherlock's brother) was the most remarkable. We're having a girl.

DPs is a fairly innocuous Taylor- all fine until he threw out Jennifer as a girls name he liked before we knew DC2 was a DS...

I had to point out that Jenni Taylor could raise some eyebrows! Grin

Woof is cool- I know a Woof!

I also know a Hoare...even worse is her first name starts with A... she really is A Hoare.

My surname is Knight so I have to be careful as to not sound like a 'baddie'. E.g. Octavius Knight sounds like a super villain- although makes initials OK...ha.

There is nothing legally keeping you from not having that as your baby's surname. My daughter doesn't have mine or her dads and my baby boy (28 weeks preggo) isn't going to have it either... Unless of course your dp/family is insistent x good luck x

I think your surname is VERY cool and there are some great suggestions.
Don't leave DH. Anyone who can come up with Chopper is worth keeping.

I know of a family called Kunt.

I have to say if you called your child Wolfgang Woof, there is no doubt at all he would become famous. He would probably become a leading actor and win an Oscar.

I'd just say be careful with a 3-4 syllable first name as it is likely to get shortened. I agree Sebastian Woof sounds fine but Seb Woof maybe not.

How about a 2 syllable name that isn't so easily / obviously shortened?

I can't think of a girls name combo though. But not Ruth.

I feel your pain, we will have a similar problem when naming future children. We can't have names with a base in nature or names ending in an 'a'
