Rocco?

I really like it. Have DS1 with unusual name which he loves. Just not too sure if too out there, we live in nice area with good schools where newborns all seem to be Harry, George, William, Edward etc!

Rocco is hardly 'out there'. In 2013 it was the 146th most popular name.

By contrast Andrew was 154th.

-o endings are supposed to be the latest trend in the UK. So I don't think not being Italian, or having Italian heritage is a barrier to using it.

As MamaLazarou says I think its has already seeped in as being a normal name and will be accepted by the current generation of Roccos. Its just the parents who have a problem with it but then that has happened to every generation this century and I can point you to newspaper articles bemoaning the use of names that aren't proper that we wouldn't blink at.

See, I think of Rocco as quite a posh name, along with Rollo?

Traditional and Catholic.

DH is a teacher in a private boys school and teaches several of them, most older than Madonna's child!

I think Rocco will become more popular and will seep into common lexicon.

When a celebrity uses an unusual name, people often decide that as it's been pre-approved as a 'real' name by a famous person, that makes it OK to use.

This may be why you often come across 'celebby' baby names such as Luna or Harlow, but rarely encounter very unusual names like Parsifal or Beulah - because a celebrity has pre-approved a name, an ordinary person can choose something out of the ordinary without sticking their own neck out.

I wouldn't want to call my child what Madonna called hers. Would be like choosing one of the Beckham's kids names. Naff.

I live in an area with quite a few 'out there' choices so I wouldn't bat an eyelid at Rocco. I met a Wilder the other day. And a Reno.

It's not for me personally as I have a cat called Rocky.

Madonna's ancestry is Italian, so I wouldn't see anything odd about her choice.

My first thought was Home and Away, Heath and Biancas son was called Rocco, I like it, use the name if you like it.

It's the kind of name I'd expect a footballer's kid to be called. There are much nicer Italian names in my opinion.

Exactly Rocky. It's quite puzzling. I have names in mind for my dc due in Oct. If I wanted opinions on here (which I don't, I am happy with my choices), I'd certainly be expecting some dislikes. It's a bit daft to ask for an opinion if you don't want an honest answer.

Not being an expert on porn I immediately just connected the name with Madonna. I dislike anything at all to do with Madonna so it doesn't get my vote.

I do think it's a bit pointless to ask for opinions and then get offended when people share their opinions.

I know a five year old Rocco and it really doesn't suit him. I do like the name but it can be a difficult one to carry off.

Jeez, what is it with snippy OP's on this topic? If you are going to ask people what you think of a name then don't get the hump when people say they don't like it. Otherwise what is the point of your post?! If you can't tolerate anyone saying they don't like it then don't post! Perhaps try Netmums where the common response will be "luv it hun".

What sounds cute on a baby may be harder to wear as the baby gets older.

My 18yo ds says Rocco sounds like a knobhead.

And I didn't say it was wrong to use any name at any time. I simply said that Antonia and Isabella had been around in the UK for centuries. The implication was, I suppose, that they had now become 'British'. Bruno and Marco, less so.

IF it matters, the Queen Isabella I mentioned (mother of Edward III) was French, not Italian. She was quite a character: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_of_France
