Please say something nice about Rosemary

I've only ever got negative feedback on my much loved Rosemary which I'm adamant to use on dd! Her grandmothers' names are Rose and Mary and I like the etymology/literary references and the herb. She'd go by Romy mostly.

or should I just lay it to rest?

(also how do you personally say it; ROSE-mare-ree or rose-mree?)

I know a beautiful Rosemary aged 23. She is stunning, very alternative and edgy, and is beyond clever. She is an engineer.

We chose it for one of our daughter's middle names. It would have done equally well as her first name but it was a matter of how it sounded when you said all names together. I love it and have a personal hatred of trendy names and 'made up' names. It's a classic so be confident and go with it.

My mum's called rosemary and she's lovely :) I like your reasons for choosing it too. I say it rose-merry.

Yes to Rosemary Sutcliff - fabulous author - and also LauraChant, I also thought of Rosie in Carbonel - glad someone else remembers her! Do read, OP! It's lovely to have a book to give your child where the heroine has her name.

In my opinion it is a very pretty name. I wanted it for a daughter, but my boyfriend won't let me because his auntie is called Rosemary and his mother doesn't like her very much Hmm

Rosemary is top of our list for a DD - the one name my DH and I agree on 100% - so I love it! Haven't heard the nn Romy before though, cute.

I do know an older Rosemary who HATES her name and feels it's old-fashioned (and she's in her late 50s) but I don't have any negative connotations and just think it's pretty. Also lovely reasons for choosing it on your part, OP!

I love it as it's my daughters middle name as is a family name on my husbands side.
It's a nice classic name.

it's my Mum's name, and was never, never shortened by her family, but later she became a childminder, and many of her kiddies couldn't pronounce Rosemary, so she was often Romy to them.

I think it is one of the prettiest names there is. I didn't quite have the nerve to use it as it was a bit unusual at the time and I wasn't sure my DD would like to be called Rosemary as an adult.(I personally wouldn't have liked to have an unusual name).
Regret it a bit now.

Love the name and love Romy (DP vetoed it sadly). Romy also reminds me of the beautiful German/French actress Romy Schneider.

Forgot to add that I know a Reception-aged Rosemary who goes by Romy. She's such a gentle little soul and her name suits her perfectly.

I pronounce it 'Rose-mree' and I love it. It is the perfect way to honour both the grandmothers, and imo a classic and lovely name.

Romy is a gorgeous nn imo.

It wouldn't be my choice but it is pretty. I like the NN Romy. Most of all I know several, all in their 50s, but they are all lovely, lovely ladies and very kind, so it has very good associations for me. Ultimately whatever you call your DD she will grow into it and the less positive responders will all go quiet.

I am showing my age now, that was a Hong kong phooey reference.
Rosemary is fine given the homage to grandmas although I much prefer Rosalind Mary. Romy is a sweet nn. So is Roz/Rosie.

No one mentions Ted Bundy to the legions of people who are planning to call their son Ted.

Rosemary is too common a name to make people think 'Rosemary West'.

Rosemart is a lovely name, I have a fab friend called Rosemary and have always thought it was a nice name.

I would never think of the Wests in RL and can't imagine anyone I know that would. As others have said, there's loads of names that belong to evil people.
