Grr.. That really.
Ds1 is due today and after 9 months of stewing over a name for him ( feel like all the ones I love are spoken for by friends and family's kids) my brother in law has just named his puppy Ted. I could cry. Especially as he named his son Rex which to me is a better dog name..
We had decided a few days ago on Ted Sidney E... But feel that we can't use it now.
Any other Ted-like names we might like? Middle name is Sidney and surname begins with an E.

'Ted' born at 4am! After all that bloody drama we decided to call him Luca! Dh suggested it when we saw him, actually love it now there's a baby to associate with the name. 6lbs 4 with lots of blonde hair :)

Can see what Craic means. He'll be Ted E. At school. They'll write "Bear" on his nametag. Children can be cruel.

Daffodil1210 · 06/07/2015 23:32

Oh god this thread has made me giggle (and nearly woken sleeping 6 week old up in process), regarding the "Tid" comment and the getting a dog and naming it after BIL...

Agree that your BIL sounds like a right arse though... I'd be so miffed...

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 23:18

But what an arsey thing for you BIL to do! I wouldn't be able to stop myself from having a word with him if I was you. Do he and your husband have one of those jealous/competitive brother relationships?

FraggleHair · 06/07/2015 23:13

Jack Russells really do live forever! When your Ted is an old man about to move into his plush suite in Shady Pines retirement home canine Ted will still be hobbling around.

ancientbuchanan · 06/07/2015 23:08

Go for it, gal.

But, er, I thought jrts were nasty, snappy, nippy. I swore no terrier, no puppy, esp no JRT. Then I was overruled.

We have a loving, sloppy, entrancing adoring pampered pooch. If one of us is depressed or ill he comes to cheer us up. He just want to join us in everything and chase foxes.

He might be your ds' best friend, for ever.

Stoppissingonthefloor · 06/07/2015 22:56

My cousin has a Theodore so that's out.. He gets theo.
I just meant E is the first letter of our surname. Baby will be Ted Sidney (after late dad) Elsen. Prob outed myself but ah well

Also in NI here [waves] please consider what TwoTribes says. Ted E is going to be harder to carry off than Theodore E as a grown up. It's memorable but not in a good way; you'd need to be very robust to carry off the same jokes again and again. Also I'm someone who thanks my parents every single day for giving me the Long Version of my NN, so many more options. We know a baby Teddy ('just' Teddy) and whilst it's adorable and suits him now I do always think his parents should have given him the option.

Frig your BIL, call your kid what you want and tell everyone that he stole the name because he's never been very imaginative and couldn't think of anything himself.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 06/07/2015 22:33

Pleased to hear you are sticking with Ted.

My cousin was given the same name as my uncles dog, so got the same name as the family pet (Ben). The dog is long gone now - I doubt anyone remembers.

Stoppissingonthefloor · 06/07/2015 22:25

He is a prick to be honest. Prob didn't even like the name Ted, just did it to be a tool. We're in Northern Ireland which is around 20 years behind with everything so no teds here as yet yay! I'm a teacher and not one in our school of 800 (yes I'm a sad act and checked )

Autocorrect dd not dad or did

stolemyusername · 06/07/2015 22:17

My 'd'b used dad's name for his new puppy, did was 14 at the time and saw him regularly Confused

WaltJunior · 06/07/2015 22:16

That is a very dickish thing to do, why would he do it, is he normally so obnoxious? I would just go with it (well Iwouldn't bc I don't like it & there 10 million teds round here!)

Foxxie52 · 06/07/2015 22:11

"How long do Jack Russell's live anyway?"

Just reminds me of Rachel asking it in friends.
"How long do cats live anyway, you know, if you don't throw them under a bus or anything...."

Indiana Jones was named after the dog.

Call baby Ted, and then when BIL mentions it insist that he is wrong and that the dog is called Tid, not Ted.

'But you called him Tid. We distinctly remember you saying he was called Tid. It's a lovely name for a dog, you shouldn't worry about it'

'But no my dog is called Ted.'

'Ha! So funny BIL. No, he's Tid. I mean come on, you wouldn't have called him the same name as our baby would you? That would be mean. And Tid's precious daddy would never be mean.'

'MY DOG IS CALLED TED!'

'Oh come on don't get upset. You'll scare Tid! Come on Tid come and cheer your daddy up... He's getting a little upset...'

etc. Grin
