Florence. Is it really THAT popular?

Just that. It's my current favourite. It seems a bit different from most of the popular names at the moment, more grown up and less cutesy. But is it everywhere? I know very few and know a lot of under 6s.

My Florence is only 3 so there is lots of time for her to be called Flo, but, so far she is called Florrie (in her modelling stuff) and Florence at home. I don't really like Flo, but, if that is what she choses when she is older I will be okay with it.

I love the name and always have done since I was a little girl. However I have always hated the nickname Flo I don't know why I hate it I just always have and I knew growing up that if I named my daughter that it was almost always be shorted to Flo so I decided if I ever used it I would use it as a middle name preferably for the name Ava but if you like it go for it I do know 3 little girls all under the age of 5 named Florence and they always get their names shorted to Flo. x

I know 3 Florence's all under 5. It'd a lovely name and is definitely becoming more popular but don't think it's as popular as some other names x

Thank you all. Feel quite positive about it! Will see what the Top 100 say in August, but it seems like anecdotally we might be ok!! Smile I do know there are plenty about, just don't want top 10.

I know two - one's about 8 and the other is 3. It's certainly not unusual but it's not super popular either.

I know only one and she's in her 20s now. I can't even think of a Florence at DS2's nursery ...

My friend has a 2 year old Florence and Ive met one other. Its fairly popular atm but not in the same league as all the Ava/Lily/Islas

None in DCs primary school. Never met one at baby groups / swimming either. Kids range from 7 down to 2.

I don't know any Florences. There are none at DS's school and none at the schools I work at.

Also you know what, I had all these threads back in 2012, I was afraid it would become overly popular and all those sorts of things, and guess what, now that she is 3, I couldn't care less she just is Florence. I am glad I didn't go for something more obscure just for the sake of it.

We have a Florence who is under one and we get loads and loads of compliments on her name. We have met one other baby Florence on our travels through various baby groups but there isn't another one at her nursery and there isn't a Florence in dd1's (large) primary so it isn't that popular around here.

I think it is a classic name and getting more common in recent years (still I was in school with a Florence years ago - very very cool girl).

I do think it is a name that could possibly soar in popularity. That wouldn't put me off a name if I loved it though. My own daughter's name is an old classic name that went slightly out of fashion for a while (as in everyone knew someone with the name and it wasn't a "granny" name but still no one was giving it to their daughters) but I notice it is now rising up the charts. Doesn't bother me or her. I loved the name for its sound, meaning, history, associations.

I have one and she is 3, we live in Sydney and have never met another one, and always get compliments on her name and how unusual it is (and how much it suits her)

I have one and know a couple of others locally. I don't think it's anywhere near as popular as the likes of Eva/Evie/Isabelle/Emily

I know of 2, one aged 20 months and one aged 9 months, I'm based on the Surrey/Hampshire border.

I think it depends on where you live, it seems to be quite popular in London.

I know five little girls named Florence, all aged 4 and under, so it's clearly popular round where we live.

Still had it on the list for DS3 though, it's a gorgeous name (though I hate nicknames Florrie and Flo) and suits baby, toddler, little girl, teenager and adult IMO.

I wouldn't let popularity put you off if it's your favourite, OP. Name fashions come and go but if you love a name then use it.

I don't know of any, but I never know of any of the really popular names, I think I live somewhere where people bend over backwards not to give their child a popular name, especially for girls.
