Freya, Erin or Esme?

Baby girl due in 4 weeks so working on a shortlist! Middle name will probably be Rose or Grace. What's people's opinions?

I know this has been done to death on other threads but there is an Esme (Es-Me) and an Esme (Es-May) at our school and both get really upset when you get the pronunciation wrong!

From what you are saying about your surname, Freya or Erin sound like better options Smile

Have you considered Elin? It's a proper name (welsh) and fairly uncommon.

I didn't know there was more than one way to pronounce Esme either. With our surname (2 lots of 'ee' sounds) it just wouldnt go if it was pronounced Esmee. Also no one can pronounce our surname so don't want her having to correct both buts Confused. So think that's off the list.

I think Freya Grace is probably the front runner. Grace is my middle name and a family name so don't care about popularity of it as a middle name.

But other first name options are Lyra or Lara. Lara is my DP's favourite name ever but I've been less keen. I think of Lara Croft! We have a DS called Henry if that adds any weight to the choice? But...we don't want a stereotypical traditional name to go with Henry if that makes sense!

I don't mind anglicized names, even with my own Irish links, so don't care about that part of the etymology of Erin.

They're all nice name but all a bit 'now' for my liking. Erin's probably (offhand) had its day and I'd go with that one. Esme second. I think Freya will date the most

Sorry, pressed post too soon. Basically I wouldn't call them 2015 names. Freya has been popular for about a decade, esme since twilight. I had no idea Erin was considered made up (aren't they all made up at some point?).

Erin is my favourite of the three. I would agree with a previous poster. Grace and Rose are very popular middle names (as is May), if that bothers you.

I had no idea that there was more than one way to pronounce Esme. I guess the twilight thing introduced the name to me so I would say it the same way.

Freya has been popular for around 10 yea

Why would you regret a middle name though, especially as she was named after her grandmother? That sounds a bit cold.

Sorry but I'm not massively keen on any of them, although I don't hate them, either. Erin just makes me think of the Waltons, and I'm never sure how to pronounce Esme. I'd choose Freya out of these three.

None of them! There will be tons of them at school...
I regret DS's Middle name of Esme which is after her grandmother and we knew no one with it so thought it a nice tribute ( and I always liked the Salinger novel) but within a year there were tons of them all spelled wrong and pronounced wrong. So I would try to go for something else. It's awful being called Esme A or Esme S or whatever as thee are so many in the class!!!

I've got an Erin. Circa 2000. The only one in her school! Just be insistent on how it's said. Many teachers used to say Eran. I had to say it rhymes with sucking air in. I remember cringing with the swimming instructor shouting it out wrongly. It's a lovely name.

Quite like them all as all pretty names and unlikely to be shortened either. Esme's my favourite of the 3 though - pronounced Es-me. What about Isla, Orla, Faith, Robin/yn?

I think it must really depend where you are. We're South West too but all the babies here have been really old school names like Winnie, Bonnie, Dotty etc or Evie/Eva/Ava! Have only met one Erin and I'm on the 'baby circuit' as have a DS already.

Esme is okay, but just sounds like a nickname for Esmerelda to me which I'm er, not so keen on. Erin is fine. Freya on the otherhand is a really pretty name. Go with Freya Smile
