Rupert - honest opinions, please!

I really like the name Rupert, but my hubby thinks it sounds a bit 'overheard in Waitrose'! I can see his point, but I also think it's a good traditional name that will work well with his older sister's name (Martha) and sounds good on a boy and a man. However, I'd hate to think it would lead to bullying in the playground.

What do people honestly think? Thank you!!!

Reminds me of the bear but I love it. Goes brilliantly with Martha and if you and Dp like it then why the hell not.

I didn't use a name for DD for fear of what people might think and now I bitterly regret it.

It doesn't matter what other people think, as long as you can imagine yourself shouting 'Rupert! ... (etc)' in the park, playgroup and generally in public, without fear or embarrassment.

It's probably more important that both you and your husband positively like the name you give your child.

Honesty, I think it is a bit ridiculous as a name. I'm not sure why I feel that way....but I do.

I've only ever known nice Ruperts.

Plus you could call him Teddy or Bear while he's little.

As a downside I'd say there aren't many good nickname options for an adult Rupert.

Posher than I should be able to stomach but I bloody love it. I'm pregnant and desperate to use it but I live on a council estate in the North West and am too class conscious to have the nerve Sad

My brothers name is Rupert and he is neither posh nor wet Grin no one has ever bullied him either. Though I teased him a lot about a bear.
It's a good strong name that is well known but not often used.

I think it depends on where you live tho. Here it would sound silly, Home Counties not so much.

I like it. I don't see it as either posh or wet, just a classy name that seems to be largely neglected. There are a few famous Ruperts and none of them are regarded as posh or wet.

The Irish jockey Ruby Walsh is really Rupert.

Rupert is also squaddie slang for officer.
Meaning posh, dim, over educated toff.

Dd's best friend is called Rupert. He is a lovely child and she affectionately calls him Roo. I think it's a great name
