What do you think when you hear the name Milo?

And yes, I'm expecting a few 'it's a dog' responses!

Just wondering what you all think of it? Considering it for DC2 arriving in a couple of weeks, DS1 has a 'grandad' type name.

Thanks!

Milo Minderbinder (catch 22) or Tweenies.

Not good.

  1. Strong man in the classics — Herculean character — that the drink Milo was named after. Drinking Milo was supposed to make kids strong
  2. Juno & the Paycock, a play I dislike
  3. A rather nice revival of an old name

A drink by Nestlé

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/10/2019 22:19

Bella Fizz and Jake

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 22:03

It’s in the same camp as Alfie, Archie and Stanley. Babyish and not great for anything older than a 5 year old.

PetraRabbit · 05/10/2019 20:49

I'm a 40 something mum of a 2 year old snd I've never really heard of the Tweenies so wouldn't make that connection at all. I've also never come across a pet called Milo. I only know one Milo- he's an American 2 year old with quite an intellectual lecturer mom. I quite like the name. It is quite of the 2010s but not popular/common enough to date that badly. If it does date it'll be the way 1970s and 80s names like Steven or Luke dated.....I don't know any Lukes over the age of 45 but I wouldn't say it was a name that dated too badly.

What are your thoughts now @LovelyWeatherForDucks

MissHenty · 05/10/2019 20:05

I really like it. Love the sound of it. I don’t know anyone local to me with the name but a friend of a friend has a Milo and lots of people have commented they like it

If you’re unsure you could register them as “Miles” and Milo can be nickname. There’s a lady on Instagram called @ maxmademedoit that has done that and it works well

Rachelover60 · 05/10/2019 19:51

Some sort of energy drink, like Horlicks, I think.

user1493494961 · 05/10/2019 19:08

Edward is lovely.

meandmyboyz · 05/10/2019 19:00

Grufallosfriends · 05/10/2019 16:55

Chocolate drink!

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 05/10/2019 16:33

Tweenies

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/10/2019 16:28

I like it but I do know a few dogs with the name like you said!

When it first seemed to rise in popularity a few years ago it did just remind me of the tweenies but I do still like it

MuTRO · 05/10/2019 16:24

Yeah, but Milo is a Slavic name. People in Russia and Ukraine etc etc call themselves "Milo" because it's short of Miloslav. Plus if you listen to anything Polish, or Russian, you will always hear "Milo" prop up. I'm not sure what it means in Russian or Polish, but It could be their name. I knew a kid called Milo, some old man heard it, and said to him "Are you Slav?" He replied "No of course I'm not" He said "Why?" He said.. "Milo is a Slav name"

SunnyBaudelaire · 09/07/2015 11:43

dull and posh and a bit cutesie

starkers1 · 09/07/2015 11:41

Milo's a lovely name. Dog/cat references are just so dull, would never take any notice of anyone who comments like this, people call dogs 100000's of names, so what if you've happened to have heard of 1 called Milo...I haven't.

PoppyAmex · 08/07/2015 22:12

I'm from southern Europe and lived in Australia for many years, so for me it's unthinkable to name a baby after a chocolate milk drink Grin

unluckycat · 08/07/2015 22:01

How strange that it has such strong associations with the tweenies, a show that seemed oldish to me when I had my first child seven years ago, and also has a jake and a Bella, both fairly well used. I doubt any current child being born will grow up with the tweenies being a big part of their childhood.

Also, try hard? That seems code for not utterly dull on here as far as boys names are concerned so I'd consider it a bonus, op.

It's not on my list but I do think it sounds nice enough.

WannaShedthisFatSuit · 08/07/2015 18:52

yep, dog - and posh and naff

Poofus · 08/07/2015 12:03

Yes, I guess so! But I hear it in my head that way when I see it written.

steppemum · 08/07/2015 12:02

Poofus - different pronunciation surely?

steppemum · 08/07/2015 12:01

I like it. It does remind me of tweenies, but so what? Tweenies is an old program now.
Don't think of dogs at all.

I like it feels strong and simple and recognisable and spellable and works for child and adult.

BothEndsBurning · 08/07/2015 11:59

It is faddy because a lot of people seem to be choosing it now, whereas it has never been particularly popular before. A name that has "been around for a long time" can still be faddy at a particular time.

And sorry, but it is a variant form of Miles. That does not mean it isn't a valid name, any more than Andrew is more valid than André, Anders, Andrea etc.

NeophyteStarfish · 08/07/2015 11:41

The Phantom Tollbooth..
squaresausage and others - yes, I thought I was the only one too!

also 'Milosevic' - Serbian name of someone I knew, who we called 'Milo'. He was nice, so a good association!
