what is the opinion on Thora?

I really like it, it has a strong meaning 'thunder goddess'. and Thora Birch is a pretty cool name sake.

but does it make you think of Thora Hird? ( I'm hoping as she has been gone for some time now that that association will only be for the older generation)

I agree, none of her peers will have a clue who Thora Hird is.

SunshineAndShadows · 03/07/2015 19:32

Can't imagine any of her peers will have a clue who Thora Hird is!

Regardless of associations it's a nice name, underused

MamaLazarou · 03/07/2015 19:28

Just makes me think of 'Thorax', sorry. And Thora Hird.

sidonie1 · 03/07/2015 17:51

I love the name Thora but then I love Norse inspired names generally.

And Thora Hird was actually an amazing actress. I recommend watching her in her 20s in Went the Day Well (1940s film about the Nazis invading England) , and then in her 90s in Pat and Margaret, or Dinnerladies (just the one scene but she steals it) delivering Victoria Wood's dialogue with so much class and style.

Lindy2 · 03/07/2015 16:53

I think Thea has a softer sound to it.

QueefOfTheSporned · 03/07/2015 16:48

Thora Hird = turd (rhyming slang).

Sorry, but it's the first thing that sprang to mind.

Pagalee · 03/07/2015 16:44

I like it a lot, strong yet pretty.

unluckycat · 03/07/2015 16:32

I really like it. Don't know who Hird is.

fanjodisfunction · 03/07/2015 16:21

It's not a harsh name at all, it's beautiful imo.

Iliveinalighthousewith2friendl · 03/07/2015 15:31

No I don't think. Too harsh sounding.

IsadoraQuagmire · 03/07/2015 15:15

I'm in my teens, so not older generation, and I think of Thora Hird, but I love her! Wouldn't think of T Birch, I know who she is of course, but not interested in her.
(I have a rabbit named Thora, it's a gorgeous name)

Heels99 · 03/07/2015 12:46
