DS will be here next week (she says so naively.. Prob another 3 weeks going on dds timekeeping) and can't choose between these names

Ben
Sid
Ted

Not short for anything, just on their own. Not wanting to get into a bc debate, just want to know what you like the best and if you don't like any, why? (Just for the record , Sid is my late fathers name, I am aware it's better suited to a snake but felt it should be a contender)

Not keen on Sid & Ted is very popular around here (SE Essex)

Ben is classic but not hugely popular.

Love whoever said that Ben is wet and wint be able to grow a beard haha!
My fav is Ted, Dh's is Ben..
I'm not against Edward, just that our surname is 2 syllabled beginning with e..

Over the last 5 years I know of about 5 babies with a name shortened to Ted. Only 1 Ben. Sid is in the trend of old man names.

I would go for Ben as it's the most timeless option, but I think using a family name / something you have a connection with is lovely.

Have you checked the ONS records to see which was most popular - or are you not bothered about it?

I like Ted best but agree it should be short for something rather than a full name. Edward or Theodore are both nice.

Love Sid. There was a Sid in the tv show Skins who was a teen and it didn't seem jarring or unsuited to that age IMO.

Like Ted but worry it's part of the 'old man' names bandwagon, like Alfie etc.

So. bored. Of the name Ben. Not a fan.

I like Ted as a nn for Edward but not as a given name I knew a lovely little boy called Sid his proper name was Sidney.

There are millions of Bens, but it's still a nice name.

Ted is fab.

Sid - initially I thought nooo but actually I think it could be great. I met a baby Ernie the therapy, so I think theold man names are back with a vengeance. I think it is quite a cool name -has connotations of wheeler dealers/teddy boys to me. Definitely not a "cute" name but so what. No worse than Seth IMO.

I think you should go wit Sid. It's a cool name and will fit in well with his age group, as lots of babies have old man names.
It's personal to you and that means so much more than just a random collection of letters!!
Ben is dull and Ted is nice but go with Sid!!

Sid and Ted are just too short/nicknamish for me, so Ben is the best (although i still prefer Benjamin/Benedict).

I quite like Sidney, makes me think of Six Dinner Sid, which was one of my children's favourite picture books.

Ted currently makes me think of Father Ted as we are rewatching it. I don't think it stands well on it's own.

Ben - fine but a bit nondescript
Sid - no, Sid James, Sid Owen, just don't like it.
Ted - nice as a childhood nickname for Edward, but too childish for an adult.

Ben - lovely name. Not at all wet. Not even damp.

Ted - a sweary bear.

But in your case I would go for Sid. But use Sidney. There is a Sidney in DD's pre-school class and the name really suits him. Having a personal link to you too just makes it better.
