Sorry, I didn't know anything about the book or film.
I was just thinking of random older names. Not old enough to be grandad names, maybe.

I have a two week old niece called Audrey. I was a little surprised at first but it has really grown on me.

Kevin feels very 1970/80's to me. All the Kevin's I've met have been that sort of age.

But, it does not make me think of the book / film that some pp's have mentioned. I've read the book (very memorable), seen the film, but I've come across far too many Kevin's for that book / film to be the first thing I think of when I hear "Kevin".

DS' best friend is called Kevin. They're 3.5 yo. Kevin's parents hail from Colombia. He is awesome Grin

And because of that, I really can't get funny over the name. I have an uncle Kevin. They're the only two I've ever met. I'm 36 40.

Now, Dean is a great name: "DEAN! Dinner time!"

And as for Wayne....my pet hate of a name. How can you look at your newborn baby, that little bundle of soft, powder scented skin...the little eyes gently closed, the little pink fingernails....and decide that the perfect name for this tender little creature is 'Wayne" Grin

Barry though...my area seems to be in a bit of a name time warp. I know 3 teenage Barrys, a baby Karen, and a few Bernadettes/Bernices under the age of 15

I know a 1-year-old boy whose middle name is Kevin, but it's after a family member.

It's not really my thing but it's not an awful name, and I don't think a child called that would have any trouble with teasing - I know a few children with similar kinds of slightly dated (not trendy-old-fashioned) names who get on fine with everybody. When I was young I somehow associated it with rather weedy, wimpy boys but I've met enough manly Kevins now to have better associations.

I don't mind it if it goes with an Irish surname. My cousin is Kevin and it suits him.

I don't think Stuart has ever been away - at least in England (I imagine it's different in Scotland). It's one of those names that has never been either in or out of fashion. It was the name of my only uncle, so I tend to notice it whenever it crops up.

brickinit - that's what the book is about. I only watched 20 minutes of the film though. I thought it was awful. There was no dialogue. I couldn't see how such a fantastically written book became that on screen - apparently the rest is very similar, so although we had the DVD from Lovefilm, we were told if we disliked the start, the rest of it wasn't going to change our feelings.

The main character is this revolting child who tortures people and ends up going on a mass killing spree. Ever since I saw that film I associate the name Kevin with psychos.
