Would these initials put you off? (Baby names)

Our choice of girls names would give the initials BAD. Would that be a problem or am I overthinking it?

On a separate note, I'm thinking of Toby for if it is a boy, but I don't really like Tobias. Can Toby be short for anything else? Just to give him options when he's older.

BAD is not a good combo of letter IMO. Sorry!

And agree, there are an awful lot of Tobys around at the moment.

Also the name still makes me think of a Tory MP type in cherry red trousers who drinks too much!

What about:
Tony (Anthony)
Joel
Robbie/Bobby

Also love Robin and Joseph- more classic than Toby!

Yes, I would avoid BAD. Maybe add another middle name as someone else said.

Toby is a nice enough name, but there are loads around at the moment - and it's def on the rise and might well end up being the new Oscar/Archie! i.e. several in each class.

More unusual alternatives that seem similar in "feel" to Tobin:

Corin
Torin
Milo
Robin

or similar in sound to Toby:

Joseph (Joey/Joe)
Logan
Brodie

I wouldn't do it. I worked with a lady who had the initials NOB. She said school was horrid! BAD isn't as awful but I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the feedback. I think its safest to avoid BAD, and since we weren't 'heart set on it' and have found another combination that works, we're happy.

Personally I think BJ is harmless. I've never really known a blow job to be referred to by initials, IME people just say 'blow job'. Anyway it's not like it's a bad thing!

I have to say Tobin immediately made me think 'serial killer'. Toby on its own is nice.

I wouldn't be put off, though.

Tobin wouldn't have that resonance for me and he'd be Toby everywhere that mattered, right? Or just have Toby on the certificate, it's a fine mane.

Everyone has problems with BJ because blow jobs, but in reality, I've known HUNDREDS of Benjamin John's (etc) and noone has ever been thick enough to be fussed - including sex obsessed teenagers.

I wouldn't use BAD. I'd add another middle name. Am I the only one who has no idea why BJG is a problem? DH doesn't know either. I'm guessing it's something rude.

Don't use the middle name as the main name, that's what DH has & it is a right pain.

I wouldn't be bothered by BAD. I would avoid STD though, and BJD.

Can you just swap the order of the names, so it's ABD, but use the middle name as the main name?

My girl's initials are BG so we avoided vowel mns, I didn't want her initials to spell BAG, BEG, BIG, BOG or BUG! Also avoided J for obvious reasons!

You could just choose a middle name that doesn't begin with a vowel.

Toby on its own is v nice.

Thanks for the opinions. Our second choice gives BED which Im not sure is better, especially when teenaged :-)
I think we'll look again. A second middle name could work, but I'm not so keen. No particular reason.

No one will care. I think the initials BAD are quite cool anyway.
