Darcy? Girls or boys name or both?

I like the name Darcy for a girl, to go with dd Lottie. Thoughts please

I have a DD who is under 2 who is Darcy. I loved the name after hearing about Darcey Bussell (prior to her strictly fame). It is a slightly harsher sounding name than others but it really suited her especially when she was born with a full head of dark hair (as apparently it means girl with dark hair). I liked the Darcy spelling as opposed to the Darcey/ Darcie spelling even though it's the more traditional male version. I do joke that I will probably end up calling her Arsey Darcy as a teenager when she throws a strop.

DD1's second choice name was Darcy - it's lovely.

I can kind of see it dating in similar way to Tracy too, Friendofbill. It's so popular with all the spelling variations combined.

My DD is a Darcy, I've loved it since the 90s when the Smashing Pumpkins had a (female) bass player named D'Arcy

Darcey Bussell's parents used it because of P and P apparently, but decided to 'feminise' it by adding an 'e'. Why she doesn't go by her real first name I don't know, because it's much nicer. Darcey is only a middle name.

Not so much used for boys, and Darcy spelling mainly. It's mega popular for girls. Not my favourite name, personally.

I know one and he is a boy, suits him never really thought of it as girls name until Ms. Bussell came on the scene

I know a lovely little girl called Darcy. It's not my cup of tea though, it sounds quite abrupt or something? Looking at your spellings, I like Darcie strangely!

Dolores I think she means her dd who is 20, rather than she has 20 dds Wink.

I know one toddler Darcey. Her mum says she gets various spellings but according to her, Darcey is the female spelling.

The only Darcy I have heard of is the ballerina Darcey Bussell. It is nice whichever way spelt but can't imagine it as a boys name.

It's unisex. I wouldn't expect a man or a woman. I'd wait and see.

I don't like it either. It's that surname as a first name thing again and I am not a fan. That's just personal preference though. You should absolutely use it if you like it.

I think of it primarily as a girl's name, although I know it can be boy's too.

DD20 has a friend called Darcy. At least it says Darcy on her birth certificate-she's always known as "Bumsy" !! Short for D'bumsy-as opposed to D'arse-y!! And she doesn't mind? In fact she introduces herself as "Bumsy" and explains it! I think it's been quite the conversation starter when they've been out on the town!!
