What do you think of the name Merryn for a girl?

This is one of the few names my dh and I can agree on. It's a Cornish name, but we live in Ireland. Do you think there would be any issues with pronunciation?

Our other names are Lois, Arwen/Arwyn, Ines, Roslyn (but it's unlikely we'll choose this and I prefer Rosalind anyway). Trying to persuade my fussy dh that Ramona is a lovely name.

We already have a Milo.

We don't know what we're having. No idea re boys' names at all.

Ooh Merryn and Ines are on my list too! In fact they're pretty much all that's on my girls' list. I do like Ramona, but it doesn't go with our surname. I've had Merryn on my list for years and am a big GoT fan, and I honestly never even made the connection - doesn't put me off though.

I'm not planning on any more DCs, but in the event of an accident more like miracle then I plan to use it for a DD. It's a combination of my parents names, Meryl and Colin so it would be a way to honour them both.

There was a Muireann in my class who was from Sligo- we always pronounced it Merryn.

Also have a friend of Indian heritage whose name is Merin.

Beautiful name for a beautiful girl.

byron robyn was also on our list for dd,but she is Def a Merryn.

She has blue eyes and blonde hair it's not wavy though. She is a cutie pie :)

It's pretty. I'm visualising a pretty little girl with blue eyes rosy cheeks and long blond thick wavy hair.
Funny how a name always brings up an image.

I love it too. I know a grown up Merryn. Also like Robyn, which has a similar vibe.

I live in Cornwall and love Merryn, shame its off the list. What abput Lerryn or Sennen? Or a nice Cornish boys name Mabyn, Tristan or Jago? love Cornish names

Cake, I like Aderyn, but my dh wouldn't go for it.

He told me last night that he's coming around to Ramona and has gone off Merryn! Men! Anyway, our current shortlist is Ramona, Lois, Ines and Celeste (I'm not too sure about Arwen now - prefer Arianwen too, but dh says no!).

Love Merryn and think it's fine with Milo.

Prefer Anwen or Arianwen to Arwen. (Arwyn looks more like a boy's name as 'wyn' is traditional male ending.)

How about Aderyn? Or Meriel?

Thanks everyone. Lots of food for thought there. I really need to start focusing on boys' names. They are much harder I think.

Love Merryn. Don't watch GoT, so no association for me. I like Merryn and Milo. I don't think the alliteration sounds too contrived, because the names are not of the same ilk imo. Milo is cute, whereas Merryn is strong and feminine. They sound like people in their own right. Millie and Milo would be awful, like a pair of guinea pigs or something.

Sorry, that's not much help.

I'm Cornish and not wildly keen on Merryn - there was an abattoir called St Merryn Meats near where I grew up which effects my decision but should have none on yours!

I agree that Merryn and Milo sounds a bit Topsy and Tim

I don't like Merryn as it's not clear whether it's male or female.

Lois is nice, an underused name from Biblical times. I've only ever met one Lois.

I like Ramona too, hope you can win him round!
