He he, some say don't use them together, they're not the same style of name. Others say, don't use them together, they don't offer enough options!

(I don't see Daisy as 'frilly' at all - but as strong and bright and clear and beautiful. But each to their own :D )

Eliza is pretty, strong and full of character. It also goes well with your other DD's names.

I think when naming that middle names should give the child options when they are older, Daisy is quite frilly and Ethel is horrible old lady so it's not giving her many/any options.

Daisy is ok, but give her a strong nice middle name that she can use if she wants something less frilly when she's older.

Both are perfectly nice names, but I honestly think that they clash terribly together.

Daisy is a very soft name with long vowel sounds, whereas Ethel (even though I like the name) is much harsher sounding with much brisker vowel sounds.

So in conclusion - both lovely alone, but awful sounding when combined.

I actually like the soft-strong thing some people have alluded to on here - with Daisy being so soft and girly I think it's nice to have a tougher middle name.

But Daisy Evelyn (pronounced Ev-a-lin) is so so pretty :) I reckon I can persuade him of that ...

I recently met an Ethel in her 60s and my first thought was, what an awful name. It seemed unusually old-fashioned for even her generation.

If your husband really likes Ethel then I think it is best to use it now as a middle name! Then it has been used which should make him happy (and if there is ever a dd4 it can't come up). Middle names very rarely come up. I've only been asked mine once or twice in the past five years and I only know one or two of my friends' middle names.

Daisy is fine, I personally am not very keen on most flower names as full names i.e. I love them as nicknames but not really as given names but at least Daisy is popular and quite classic.

So I would say go for if it works for your family. Smile

I really like both Daisy and Ethel, just not together!

They're not the same style of name, iyswim. Daisy is gentle and soft, Ethel is cool and harder. Difficult to explain..

I would use Ethel, with Effie as a nickname.

It's ok, quite pretty and Ethel is fine as a middle. Though nothing wrong at all, Daisy isn't a personal favourite.

I was going to suggest Edith instead of Ethel but I see you have one already. I think Ethel is ok as a middle name although Edith and Eleanor are much nicer. I wouldn't use Daisy with it though, i don't think they world together. I think you need to swap one of them.

I didn't realise Daisy had become popular - that's our planned name for dd1 due in September!!

One of the reasons we chose it is because we don't know any other Daisys.

I love the sound of it but my issue with Daisy is if you don't grow I to a gorgeous svelte adult the bovine similarities are going to come in to play.

Daisy is OK, quite popular but pretty.
I have tried to like Ethel but can't see the appeal - however, I do think it is one of these names that will catch on more with 'trendy' people over the next few years so by the time she is twenty there will be lots of younger Ethels and it will seem cool!

To keep the E initial what about Estelle, Emmeline or Esmeralda?
