he would be christened Ted. go by Ted or Teddy.
Edward and Theodore arent options.

I'm just eternally grateful my parents didn't saddle me with the diminutive of my name by which I was known during my childhood. I got the full name, which gave me choices later, and a formal name if I ever want it.

I really like Ted and think it's fine to have on the bc if that's what you prefer - I think Teddy should just be a nickname though as it's too babyish.
I do like Edwin as an alternative though!

I'd use a proper name for the birth certificate. Ted is too cutesy and insubstantial, better as a nick name and short form

Ted sounds lovely but I'm not keen on diminutive names on birth certificates so I would go with a full version and call him Ted day to day. My DD gets Jen or Jenny almost all of the time but Jennifer is her full name, I just feel it gives her more options as an adult

I know a couple of Ted's. A young one and a not so young one. No idea if they have proper names as they've always been Ted. It's a great name and really works on little boys and adults.

I would go with the name you love. That said, we had a similar dilemma with DS1 and nearly put a short form on his BC because we weren't sure about the long version. We changed our minds at the last minute and we've grown to absolutely love the long version, as does our DS. He happily gets called either now.

Incidentally, Ted Danson from '3 Men & a Baby' is an Edward.

I can't see why the proper longer name isn't the option- he can still be Ted but at least he gets a choice when older. He may not like Ted- I don't.

I have a Ted Smile I love his name, and no one has ever tried to call him anything other than Ted, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I am not very keen just as a first name but I really like it as a nickname. But I am the kind of person who would choose a "birth certificate name" with nicknames.

If Edward and Theodore are off the table you could try Edmund? (Or Thaddeus if you're extremely brave!)

Although I am now wracking my brain that that guy from 3 men and a baby might have been called ted and that was acceptable (to me).

Never ever had anyone try and call my Ted Edward or Theodore. Occasionally people ask if it's short for something but not always. It's pretty common as a name in itself.

Personally I would go for the longer name and use the nickname, but nothing wrong with Ted. But I like long names with nicknames. More versatile.

I would personally choose Edward to go with Isabelle and Eliza and call him 'Ted' for short :) (I guess you call the others by shorter names?)

I have a 2.5 yr old Ted. I didn't like any of the longer versions, so just went with it. He generally gets called Teddy, but like mrsscarlett we thought Ted might be more grown up as he gets older. There are a fair few Teds/Teddys around though, in case you think you're choosing something rare or unusual!

Love it. This is our #1 choice for DC1 if it's a boy (due in October). I don't like Edward/Theo/Theodore, I LOVE Ted and Teddy - really don't see the point in adding so-called formal name that we don't like, when the name we love is Ted.

I originally just wanted Teddy but DH has convinced me that Ted as the 'official' name might be better as he grows up.
