Names you don't like that are loved on here

Lighthearted!

Rowan always gets a positive response on here and is suggested a lot.

I don't like it. I think it looks feminine (I know it can go either way) and it makes me think of Mr Bean!

Fleur. This has such a horrible sound!

Genevieve. I think this looks like a disease!

I detest Harriet, and Matilda. They are loved on here - i find them so very ugly. And most of the flower and cutesy names - why name your child something that is only appropriate for about 7 years of their life?

I also hate when someone is asking say, ' Charlotte, nn Lottie' and people post "why not just name her Lottie then" I always think are you stupid? A cute nickname is not a proper name, there is a difference between wanting to name your child something and planning to call them a cute specific diminutive as a toddler.

If it upsets you so much people don't like names you do, then - erm, well I want to say something useful, but 'get over yourself' is about all I can extend to.

Lots of names I like and that I/my friends children are called are on here, and I'm not crying about it because you know, that's sort of the POINT!

I know an adult Rohan and 2 small Rowans, all very well suited to their names.

Why start a petty and pointless thread that's bound to create bad feeling if you don't want people to have pointless rows? Hmm

I quite like it for girls.

I just think for boys it sounds wet and flimsy, somehow, and I can't get away from the Rowan Atkinson/Mr Bean thing.

We all have different views! Grin Two people have come on to state Rowan is lovely - as acknowledged, many people presumably think so, but not me! Same with Gabriel!

Purdiepie. Are you for real 'stupidly spelt Celtic names'. They are not stupidly spelt names, they are a DIFFERENT LANGUAGE. No need for insults, you could have just said Celtic names not ' stupidly spelt.'

Then there is a horror film called Milo.

It is a popular dogs name.

Oliver, Olivia and Lydia. All horribly po-faced, middle class to my ears.

And everything ILive said. I really don't like the popular boys names, the Jacks, the Harrys, the Bens. I like them even less because they're shortened versions of proper names. Don't get me started about the awful MN love of "nicknames" (which they aren't, anyway).

I find many of the Clementine/Constance/Matilda type names too try-hard too. I'm hard to please!

I do love Vivienne nn Vivi though. That seems to be making a come back but don't if just on here or IRL.

I don't like surnames as names either. Or boy names as girl names (or vice versa).
