Totally unusal spellings for common names?

I was just wondering what unusual spellings of totally common names that you have heard. I've come across a Khatlynne and an Ezykile.

I think the registrars just do as they are told...
I do know of someone who wanted to call their child Zircon but the dad who went to register the birth had dyslexia so he got the name Zarkon....
not kidding.

Why don't the registrars gently suggest the conventional spelling for some of these? Or aren't they allowed to?

I used to go to school with someone called Mysheele (Michelle). I don't think they were necessarily trying to be yooneek though, I think they had literacy issues.

Now though... I know a Jaykub and an Izzak (Isaac) - I think they're the "worst" of the mis-spellings.

She goes to a primary school my cousin teaches at in Lincolnshire. It might have started as a story but someone has taken it on and given it legs!

I know someone with a Kaileb. I.only knew it wasn't spelled Caleb by reading the tattoo on her foot one day. Quite handy really.

Someone at work was saying if her Bump is a girl she wants to call it "Olivia-Rose but with an A" ..... so Alivia then? No no, Olivia but spelled Alivia.

Cloggal Noo! It's an urban myth? I have a teacher friend in Glasgow who swears blind he taught a Versace McClatchey about 10 yrs ago! Gutted, I totally believed him.

I have come across a Shavonne. I have also come across a reverse situation: girl called Sian but pronounced See-Ann.

When I gave birth to DS, there was a woman in the bed opposite me with a DD. The photographer came to take pics (and names), I heard him saying 'Bethany? B-E-T-H-A-N-Y?' And she said 'No, B-E-F-A-N-Y'
Poor kid.

I think Xavier should be said 'HA-vee-air'.
If I wanted it said with a Z sound at start, I'd spell it with a Z.

I met a retired person called Sallie today, so unusal spellings are nothing new.

DH suggested we call DD Yve a relative Yvonne. It didn't happen.

Some pretty names on this list but I have always wondered why people go for spelling names in bizarre ways. It just means that every time the child has to tell someone their name for anything official they will always end up having to spell it out. Which must be frustrating. I think if I had a normal name spelt bizzarely I would wait till I was old enough and get it changed by deed poll. I also tend to assume the parents can't spell. Sorry! I do like the names listed though! Ever so nice some of them. With Gaelic and Welsh names it may appear that they are spelt wrongly but the letters in Welsh and Gaelic do not always make the same sounds as they do in English so for example Ffion because Ff makes an F sound in Welsh and a single F makes a sound like a V.
