Anastasia, nickname Stacey

It seems from the archive that everyone hates the name Stacey/thinks it's dated/chavvy.

It's a serious contender if we have a girl and I'm not convinced it is chavvy, though perhaps dated.

We have a "St..." surname and quite like the alliteration.

We would not use Stacey on it's own, and with Anastasia there would be the possibility of other nicknames too... Ana/Anya etc.

Anyone got strong opinions either way?

I have a cat called Anastasia (after the Russian Grand Duchess) I call her by her full name but my dad calls her Anna.
Stacey would never have occurred to me as an abbreviation.

I love Anastacia its a beautiful name with lots of choice with nicknames. I personally would try out different nn once baby is born Grin

I thought of the film anastacia which is one of my favourites from childhood.

I can't believe no one has linked it to a real life princess but rather 50 shades or a film. Anastasia Romanov was the prettiest daughter of the Tsar of Russia, mischievous and cheeky and executed by the Bolsheviks in 1917. You can't get a better name, surely, if you love European history. I could learn to love Stacey as a nn but Anastasia is far more beautiful and 'characterful'. Never read/seen 50 shades obviously.

DD's teacher is called Stacey. She's 27 and looks like the Duchess of Cambridge. All stripey tops, wedges and skinny jeans.

Love Anastasia, but def prefer nn Ana or 'Staysha' rather than Stacey.

I like Stacey. It's a cheerful friendly sounding name (or maybe I feel that way because that's how all the Stacey's I know are!)

I read in an article that 80s names will probably make a re-appearance once the Cath Kidston Alfie/Martha trend is done. We're already seeing the less loved 'vintage' names coming along now, Berts, Ediths, Veras! So lots of new little Carols and Sharons are in our future, maybe named in honour of grans and granddads? Anyway, your little one could be a trendsetter!

Anastasia is one of the most gorgeous names ever.

Stacey is bloody awful. Which is one reason I have no DC called Anastasia (Although DS2 would so have been Anastasia if he had been a girl!)

But ignore me...call your DC what you like!

I absolutely love Anastasia. Makes me think of the princess Anastasia from the film, not 50 shades of shite. I prefer Ana as a nickname though, although there's nothing wrong with Stacey, I don't see it as chavvy!

I have an Anastasia (it was an old family name); she is 3.5 and will absolutely love her girly, slightly exotic name. For the time being she is Annie. But I really don't like Stacy as a NN. Where the family is from (SW Ireland), Antsty was also a common NN.

PS she was born before 50 shades of shite, which I have not read

Yes I remember the Babysitters Club and that was what I thought of when I head the name. I also remember the Anastasia books of the same era. I loved them.

Anastasia is ok, although it reminds me of 50 shades of grey which was an awful book... Stacey is very dated IMO and not granny chic or likely to be. I'm sorry but it does sound very chavvy. If you like Anastasia then I would use it as is or come up with another nn.

I know a right pain in the arse Stacey-Anastasia.

Anastasia is so girly and pretty and Stacey is so harsh, they don't match.

I have a relative called Anastasia and is known as Stasia (sort of pronounced Staysha). I think it's lovely.

I don't find Stacey lovely but Anastasia is just delicious.
